Dearest Members and Vistors of our little Fountain Pen Nut house on the digital prairie,

It is with great sadness that we heard today of Dick Egolf's passing.

We would like to wish our condolences to all his relatives, Carol and John Gillett in particular, and to all of his friends.

With Dick we have lost a great contributor to the pen community worldwide, but he will continue to live on in our memories.

Heard a lot of positive things about him.

My thoughts go to the family and friends he leaves.

Never had the pleasure of meeting Dick in person, just knew him through our emails.

He was always very helpful and positive in our correspondence.

Sad to hear of his passing. My condolences to his family.

I've do not know him. But what I know is that life is such a curious thing.

Somehow I see life as connections between us, every moment that we have made something good with somebody else creates one connection, that remains "flashing" as we can remember.

It may sound like foolish, but I see my own life like this. If I can make such connections with other people, I will be alive in their memory. And in the moment I could not be remembered, somehow I have passed away.

I wish peace in the heart of him family.

Very sad news. Condolences to the family.

I never met him, but always hoped to in order to thank him in person for getting me a replacement nib and feed -- for FREE -- on my first Noodler's Konrad when I accidentally borked the original nib (got the blind cap stuck inside the cap and then tried to screw the cap back on :headsmack:) when I contacted Noodler's to find out where to buy another nib. And this was on a Sunday -- and on a holiday weekend, no less.

Definitely a loss.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
