Balance Model Confirmation

Hello all... Thus is my first Shaeffer's ... An inexpensive rind at a local antique/consignment shop. I assume it's a Balance White Dot... But approx year? It appears to be the original nib. Dipping... It appears it will be a smooth wtiter, but I'll probably opt to find a different nib. I'll certainly do some writing with it first, though. Beginner's repair kit just came in today from FountainPenSacs.com (where else??? LOL) ... So hope to ink 'er up as soon as the sac glue dries!!

Sorry ... made initial post on my cell phone, and apparently didn't attach the images.

Thanks, in advance.

Very good... Thanks!

I am just getting ready to bin install it's new sac. We'll see how THAT goes. It doesn't seem as there is clear flow from the inside facing portion of the Nov, to the outside.b imem u can't blow (much) air through it.

Note spelling of "Sheaffer".

Kirchh ....

That was indeed a pretty poor post, on my part! My appologies. I did it from my phone, and didn't bother checking spelling when I got done. Well ... that accounts for all the 'funny' words. The Sheaffer mis-spelling was intentional. Not intentionally meant to mis-spell .. but I usually do spell it that way! My bad ...

BTW . congrats on being an official Sheaffer repair personage!

When referring to the company ... should it be just 'Sheaffer' ... or 'Sheaffer's' ? I assume, as the clip (at least on my pen) .. is labled Sheaffer's ... that is indeed the company name ?

I got the sac replaced, and working fine! My 'restore' isn't as pretty as your's would be, but I WAS looking for an inexpensive version, so I could try some different nibs besides my Etsy's. Looking to broaden my limited experience with thse inky things! I probably should have stuck to a Waterman or something, as I'm looking to try a 'wet noodle' .. or something close. I have a couple other pens on order, to chase that ideal ... a Noodler's Ahab from Goulet Pens, and waiting for stock buildup from Desiderata Pen Co. So ... I might just look for different nibs for this Sheaffer's guy....

Her's the Sheaffer's along with my two Etsy 'writers'.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
