What Did I Buy?

I'd been in the market for a cheap carry-around pen, and really liked my Hero 616s, so I decided to go cheap and Chinese again. After looking about, I see an ebay ad for "Hero 329's" and decided to bite. I know that the old-version of the 329s look a lot like the 616's, but with a gold arrow on the end of it...that said, these look nothing like them. They write well...I destroyed one of them pulling it apart, but the other two are pretty nice.

That said, what are they?

Here's the original ad:

And here are a few at-home pics:

Also, when shaken (not very hard), they're pretty drippy...so are my 616's...

is there any way to stop this?

This appears to be the $0.99 pen I've seen on ebay. I gather this is the new Hero 329. Been wondering how they can ship them for free all over the world at this price. Are they any good? Worth more than 99 cents?

Yep, it`s a 329. Wet nib, medium. Quite smooth. Definitely a good purchase for that price. I pay 2.5 usd for 3 pens, which is ridiculous

Not familiar with this model, but it looks a lot like it might be Hero's version of a Parker 61 (the way a 616 is supposed to be a Parker 51 knockoff/clone). What sort of fill system does it have? And by "drippy" do you mean that it seems to be leaking, or just that it's a very wet writer?

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
