What Year Did Visconti Produce The Ducale Palazzo Pens?

Paul Raposo

Hey all.

Hoping to get a production date for the Visconti Ducale Palazzo di Sassuolo Lux pens. I've included an internet picture for reference. I think it was the late 1990s early 2000s.

I lean to the 1990s but have nothing beyond my poor memory and the look of that clip to back it.

Thanks much for your thoughts on this Ghost Plane

In the booklet that came with the pen they mention the 400th anniversary of the palace from 1599 to 1999 but no production date for the line.

I'm going to work on some pics and post them hopefully Wednesday.

Visconti tends to crank out special editions, so 1999 is probably the date. They tended to have them ready for the anniversary date. Nothing firm.

Visconti used to have the catalog of their old pens on-line as far as i recall, but it seems to be missing now. Maybe email them?

Hey zaddic.

I had read about the online museum and you're correct, it seems to be gone right now. Thanks much for the tip about emailing them  I sent an email this morning and will post any reply I get.

You're correct Fred--mine is 130/599 and Visconti also made 000/1000 of the roller ball in this "Lux" version, with the fountain pen and roller ball sections being interchangeable, according to the booklet.

And thank you for the production date

I'm not sure if I sent an email to the right people. I contacted L.S.F. Trading Ltd. in Ontario, Canada. They're suppose to be the distributors for Visconti here in Canada.

Finally got around to taking some pictures of this lovely pen.

It's a large pen, think Parker Duofold button filler from the 1920s. But because of the plastics used it's very light in the hand. The clip is very secure for something with such a flourished design.

The beechwood box is really a work of art.

The pen has a combined sedate and ornate design. First the engraved black barrel. No further embellishments so as to not take away from the silvered engraving of the Palace.

I very much agree europen :)

I normally don't gravitate towards c.c.pens, but this one was too pretty to pass up a second time.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
