Which Starwalker?

Hi All,

I'm looking to purchase my first MB and I've chosen a Starwalker Fineliner.

The question is, which one?

1. Midnight Metal

2. Resin Red Gold

3. Red Gold Metal

4. Resin Platinum

I love the weight of the metal models, but I'm worried that the Midnight metal doesn't look like a MB at first glance, whereas the resin models do- and the price of the Red Gold Metal is really making me ask questions as to whether its really worth double the resin gold.

Please... help me decide!

Many thanks,

David

I have a Fountain Pen Black Resin with Platinum and love it. The Platinum pops out with the contrast. I love the modern lines of it. Look some pictures:

There's an advice in the "Service Guide" Booklet that came with my pen in page 42 that says: "The use of 'Burgundy Red' ink is not recomended for the StarWalker Midnight Black Series. The ferro-galic content (of the ink) might cause colour changes on nib and forepart in the long-term".

That advice is for the Fountain Pen, but wonder if that reaction can happens with other chemicals present in our life. Don't know.

I own three Starwalker: Midnight Black Ballpoint and Rollerball / Fineliner, and the Ultimate Carbon Fountain Pen. In my opinion, the Starwalker is the most beautiful MB line from the aesthetic point of vue (I like modern design, such as the one of the ST Dupont Défi, to give another example). That being said, I would choose the Midnight Black Metal, which will also be my next one. :) I tried the ballpoint some years ago and loved it (good weight, solid feeling, great design). Let us know...

I have 100 Years Anniversary Black and Cool Blue Starwalker. My next pen (I wish) would be Resin Red Gold or Red Gold Metal. The only issue would be the price of the latter which is too hefty for a Starwalker!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
