Inks Like Diamine Steel Blue

Recommended Posts

Hello,
I have been looking into getting some new inks and came across Steel Blue.
Originally i was planning on purchasing samples from Goulet, but
after seeing international shipping was more expensive than my pretty large order itself, i decided to look for a Canadian website.
I found myself at WonderPens.ca and I'm very happy with their prices. Sadly, they don't carry Steel Blue.
If you know of any inks similar to Diamine Steel Blue, please share!
Thanks,

Mutton

If you are not in a rush. You can ask Liz at Wonderpens if she can add a Steel Blue on her next order to Diamine.

She is extremely nice and their customer service is the best.

AFAIK Nota Bene in Montreal carries Diamine ink. Might be worth checking to see if they have Steel Blue. Russell Hemsworth is the proprietor.

Have you checked the delivery charge on the Diamine web-site?

Is £10 for approx 6-8 bottles (80ml bottles) .. unless they change it.

I am still trying to resolve a gaffe they did on my Anniversary ink shipment, they send it via UPS (although the website says they only ship Royal Mail) and I had to pay customs fees on top of regular shipping fees. I will recommend to not go that way.

I wouldn't have thought it would make any difference which shipper they used. We also have to pay Customs fees, and that applies for whoever ships it.

It's basically import tax. Canadian customs stop the packages regardless of the shipper

UPS charges a brokerage fee for international packages. I once received a gift from my cousin across the border. Gift value $30; UPS brokerage fee $40.

UPS is "special"... there are threads in other places about it. At least for Canadians, their brokerage fees are highway robbery. If I have known they use UPS, I would have never bought my inks with them.

In summary, if you are in Canada.. it does make a difference if your shipper is UPS.

Try Stylus in Edmonton. My bottle of Steel Blue came from them :-) Awesome people who ship fast with good rates through Canada Post. I spend the summer in Ontario, and I order from them at least a few times every season.

Also, try De Atramentis Blue Steel, it's a different ink, but it's wonderful and a similar color.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

A to the men. Never ever use couriers for any international shipments, as you're guaranteed to be dinged for duty and tax. They should have told you!

And yes, Jon and Liz will gladly special order any Diamine. But not til April, when Diamine starts shipping again.

Wonderpens truly rocks.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
