My 2015 La Pen Show Sunday Pics Album

Observations

1. First 10 mins or so will be overwhelming if this is your first show, even if you go in with goals and checklist.

2. With that said, having a check list and hard budget makes it easy on your mind and wallet.....

3. Nothing beats being able to hold the pen you desire in real life and get the feel for it, which is also really bad for your wallet.

4. Being able to sit down and test all kinds of nibs is awesome, thumbs up to all the vendors( Nibs.com, Franklin-Christoph, Edison Pens etc) for this.

5. If you want better interactions with people, probably better to get trader's pass and go on the other days. Everyone was kind and answered my questions on Sunday but with the steady stream of people at all tables it is not the most ideal situation to get deep dives.

6. Great time to bring your pen for the nibmeisters, I saw Mr. Matsuyama once again had a special guest doing nib work at his stand this year. (And really I expected a longer line for his table)

It's a little scary to me that I can identify several of the vendors just by looking at their pen trays, and I did not go to the show!

The last LA Pen Show I attended was 2013, so I appreciate looking at the photos. It's funny, cos the show is overwhelming with pens (I'd have to blur my vision cos it was too much!), so I relied on Ricky (AltecGreen) to be my Show Sherpa. Looking at the photos is great! I'd never have seen those Lamys at the show (unless someone had pointed them out), for instance.

Pen Show Poland is coming up in April (11 & 12, if anyone in Poland is reading this) (at Kino Kosmos in Katowice). It's a smaller show with a lovely, friendly atmosphere. Sarj the One-Man Pen Show and Jas will be there (from England), and I always get a good look at his many pens, not to mention the pleasure of hanging out with him and Jas.

Anyway. Thanks for sharing your photos!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
