How Do I Arrange A Pelikan Factory Tour

Hi All,

My family and I plan to be in Germany this summer and wish to take a tour of the factory. Does anyone have any advice on how to arrange this?

Best,

Todd

Copy of part of Pelikan newsletter from last year.

In February, we opened the doors of our manufacturing plant for the first time, not only for guided tours through the production area but also for the Make A Wish Nib sessions, i.e. especially adapted nibs. The response was enthusiastic, and we are happy to announce further developments today!

We hope to see you in Germany...

This is quite surprising. I was going to say I know someone who works at Pelikan and there she is--Beate. When my book was translated into German, Beate read it for me to make sure it made sense. She's terrific and helpful and a good novelist who writes in English.

Check out this link: http://www.pelikan.com/pulse/Pulsar/en_US_INTL.Pelikan.displayWuediwa.197761../booking. Maybe there is more to it than I can see on the website but the dates for this summer seem to be rather limited. I'm seeing availability for May 8, July 3, and August 7 only. I hope one of those works for you. If you do go, please report back your experiences.

I'm pretty sure it's one Friday per month, which Pelikan chooses at their option.

Sounds about right. That corresponds to the dates listed on the website, they are all Fridays.

It is done. Factory tour with the wife and boy at 9:30. Meeting consult and for the make a wish nib (M400) at 11:00. Then off to the company outlet store for a complete set of the Souveran 400 (fp, rb, bp, pencil) and maybe their book.

I have a nib form to fill out. Any advice? I write small and tend to like EF-F points. A stub perhaps?

A stub at that small of a point wouldn't really show much line variation, I think. Having said that, if you already paid for it, why not?

Pelikans tend to run wide, so for you, I would try to get them to make a XXF (Japanese XF) stub, since that's something that you can't find on the market and would be the most costly (and difficult) for a nibmeister to do.

Whatever you decide to do, I'm really interested in a write-up of your experience after you do it. And most importantly, pics! I've seen Montblanc bespoke nibs, but I'm really interested in what a Pelikan make-a-wish nib looks like.

Would make a great read, perhaps even a pinned post, especially if they let you take pictures. Can't wait to hear how it goes.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
