Yama-guri is a great brown. I'm not sure I'll be getting a bottle. It is very, very similar to the inks compared here, and I actually prefer the less saturated Cacao du Brésil and R&K Sepia. Still, Yama-guri could easily replace my favorite CdB if I needed a really wet ink in this color range. Unlike CdB, Yama-guri definitely looks better on warm-tone paper.

 

I'll try to update with chromatography later tonight.

 

Written review on Rhodia Dotpad no. 16, quick sketch of my earbud (sorry, it was what was in my hand when I started drawing) on Strathmore watercolor paper. Reasonable care was taken to ensure color accuracy, but these are natural light photos, so some variation is expected.

Thank you for your review.

 

I've just started playing with a sample of Yama-Guri and I'm really liking it how it is dark and saturated. It can be used in a professional setting but isn't the black or blue you see everybody else write with. It's behaved very well for me so far and I look forward to testing it out further before making my decision on whether to purchase a bottle of it or not.

Definitely. If I had a dry writing pen, Yama guri would be in it all the time.

 

The lamy abc with 1.1 nib is fairly dry, but it is my daughter's. I just borrow it for these reviews.

I was trying to think of when I would have occasion to use. Thanks, I am not a traditional black or blue lover ordinarily, but I can see using this as an alternative to using either of them. I may have to invest in at least a sample. If only to use during a rare instance when I am not using my favorite color.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..
