Toronto Pen Meet Ups 2015

This year I'm trying a new thing - a standing meeting the same time and place every month. SO ... we're going to do the third Saturday of every month at 11:30, at The Fox & The Fiddle at 280 Bloor Street West.

I know some people don't like the location, so if you can find somewhere else that is downtown, allows mind reservations for brunch, and doesn't mind if we stay a long time, then please let me know.

That's cool because this Prairie boy is headed East sometime this summer. I can hit one of those dates. I'll watch this thread in case the location changes. Thanks Saskia.

I will try to meet you all in March. I will miss the February meet as it is the Toronto Motorcycle Show weekend and I am volunteering at the Ride for Sight booth. If you are able to come by the motorcycle show after the pen mtg I may still be there. If anyone wants to sponsor me in the fight to cure blindness please let me know and I will get you my on line pledge link.

I hope the meet is a good one next week.

Rob Maguire (Plse call me "M or Mags" like my friends do...)I use a Tablet, Apple Pencil and a fountain pen. Targas, Sailor, MB, Visconti, Aurora, vintage Parkers, all wonderful.

I'm going to try and make it this Saturday, if everything works out I could be bringing a friend, another Leftie with a passion for pens, but the potential to enjoy some good ink!

Thanks Cyber6 I will send you an e-mail with a link to my Ride for Sight Pledge Page and it has more information on the charity for the cure for blindness. As pen people I am sure we all appreciate our vision needs for the passions in life we have.

It was interesting at the motorcycle show the kick off speaker for the charity introduced a young Toronto woman who thanked riders for helping finance her chip implants in her eyes she has special glasses and a belt PC and together it is the latest in bionic eyes. She cant see faces yet. She is emphasizing yet!!!!

Looking forward to it. Bring an empty pen - I just treated myself to a trip to WonderPens and now have a full bottle of Iroshizuku asa-gao ! I also picked up a bottle of Sailor Jentle Miruai if anyone wants to try that one as well....

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
