Aurora Inks?

Thanks to good advice on FPN I have started to use Aurora Blue and Black inks as my every day inks and love them. They are very well behaved and work beautifully on different papers. I tried to find information about them on Auroras web but there were none. Some webshops are out of stock. This makes me a bit concerned. Are they still produced? Are there only blue and black or do they produce other colours?

Hi Tanzanite,

Aurora Blue is one of my everyday inks also but, as you've found, supply is a bit erratic at times so get it whilst it's hot. As far as I'm aware Aurora only do the Blue or Black. I usually switch between Diamine Sapphire Blue and Aurora Blue as they are very similar in colour when writing at least.

If you're in the EU, I'd recommend the excellent Write Here in Shrewsbury, UK for Aurora inks (black and blue are the only colours I've seen in Aurora inks). Usual disclaimers apply.

Thank you! The webshop where I have bought mine still have, but in my search for information and more colours and the fact that Aurora do not have them on their web made me worried.

I really whish there were more colours. Has anyone tried to mix the blue with a little of the black ink?

I've used the black for years, as I find it one of the deepest, richest black inks. It is also fairly wet IME.

Never tried the blue, though I’d like to one day. Am happy to hear that it leans toward sapphire, which I like.

I have noticed that the blue smears if I take notes in a meeting and have the pen uncapped when I am not writing. This has been on Oxford paper.

I had the opportunity to try Aurora black recently. Never used black before. It blew me away. Very dense. Didn't fade to gray or some other color. Definitely a Standard

That happens with a lot of inks. If pen is capped between writing there is no problem.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
