Manufacturers since 1864, Diamine Inks relocated to this purpose built 'state of the art' factory in Liverpool in 1925, where they successfully carried on using the traditional methods and formulas for ink production. Over the years the company has changed hands and are now located close to the world famous Aintree Race Course

Diamine offers interesting ink gift sets. The idea is nice but I'm not interested in full lines of inks, rather in colors I enjoy. That's why I'm pleased to say Diamine will offer all of their inks also in 30 ml plastic bottles. A friend of mine send me the samples of Music Set inks. I'll review them here.

  1. Bach
  2. Beethoven
  3. Chopin
  4. Handel
  5. Mozart
  6. Schubert
  7. Strauss
  8. Tchaikovsky
  9. Vivaldi
  10. Wagner

Mozart looks nice, not really special in any way but decent all way through.

I am rather underwhelmed by this set - not necessarily by the colours themselves (although some are really bland), but by their names. I imagine Sandy1 would have something to say about that ; ) As it were, I don't find this red very Mozarty. Great shading though. And, as always, nice review.

Edit: Unlike the other inks in this set, I would consider buying this one.

An ink named for Mozart should be fiery red, or maybe purple. He was NOT a bland composer - he made so many innovations! The color should reflect this...

Great music - but it makes me laugh when I think of all the gimmicks that the ink makers come up with to get you to buy more ink - not that that's a bad thing. Mozart by Diamine, JFK by Montblanc and so forth.

How about an ink series dedicated to famous criminals like:

Bonnie and Clyde Green

Jack the Ripper Red

John Dillinger Blue

And as they were criminals, we could certainly charge a criminal price - say $50.00 for 35ml.

Sometime ago... someone open a thread to ask about Diamine New Series... (I believe this was during the Flower and Music series).. I replied stating that the next series is the "Monster Series".. celebrating the Monsters of all times... Dracula, Frankenstein, Jekyll&Hyde... etc... people got sooo excited.

I still think is a good idea.. ;)

@Charles - this names are more than cool and C - monster series would be AWESOME. I do believe Christine from Diamine should read this post and make their graphic designers start working on etiquettes :) Jekyll & Hyde would have to be gall ink for it's incredible change in color.

I would definitely buy Jack the Ripper Red. One may think it's in bad taste but...

Montblanc actually brought out a Mozart pen, in 1991 - twohundred years after his early death. I bought one. That may actually have been my first halting step on the slippery path of fountain pen obsession interest, although I was already using them and preferred them over all other pens...

But I did not usually spend the amounts of money MB wanted for their small hommage... that was a first. And it took more than 25 years to take the next step.

Well, Hellooo!!!!!

I like these ideas a lot and I know that Phil at Diamine keeps as up to date with FPN as he can. Busy chap. I'll draw his attention to this very soon. I particularly like the Jekyll & Hyde...

Some of you might remember the Meddler's range that I used to use in my signature. I'll note them all down on here sometime but one example that comes to mind was; "Meddler's 'Muddy Waters' - one of the earliest blues."

Strangely, the range never really took off...

...and there just might be more Diamine news in the not-too-distant future...

The Good Captain

"Meddler's 'Salamander' - almost as good as the real thing!"

Wow. If those were released today there would be lawsuits numbering in the thousands.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
