Not A Review. Just An Overexcited Boy

As the title says, this is neither a review nor a comparison. I'm just overexcited because this is my first time using rhodia pad. Previously, the Pelikan turqoise bleeds and feathers on all my papers but this is just perfect! :D I apologize if I have wasted your time >< post-118501-0-31713900-1421685625_thumb.jpgpost-118501-0-88105200-1421685668_thumb.jpgpost-118501-0-33965500-1421685705_thumb.jpgpost-118501-0-80337700-1421685762_thumb.jpg

Yes, paper can make a BIG difference in how the pen writes and how the ink looks.

And paper is another rabbit hole to fall into.

Das leben ist wie ein Perpetuum Mobile mit ein Mangel..... Immer im Bewegung jedoch nicht unendlich. (life is like a troubled Perpetuum Mobile ever moving but not for ever)

Tricked throughout the centuries...

For centuries people had been tricked by kings & "religion-alism"

In the 20th century people got tricked by communism

Today people get tricked by (neo)capitalism :)

  • 2 weeks later...

I remember feeling that way when I first used Clairefontaine Triomphe with a Goulet 1.1 stub in my first fountain pen, a Noodler's Ahab. I finally understood what buttery smooth and glassy writing felt like. It was a conversion experience, I tell you. lol ;)

I love papers now so much. I go out of my way to find beautiful stationery and cards and notebooks just to have that beautiful smooth or varied textured experience. It is amazing how paper transforms the entire experience of writing.

I highly recommend you try lots of different papers. Explore with different colors, textures, weights, etc. There is a wealth of information on the paper forum that you can check out.

Oh and just wait until you try Tomoe River paper! It took me a whole year to try it after hearing about it here on FPN, I should not have waited so long. Ohmygoodness, it is AMAZING! :happycloud9:

Thank you for your suggestions. Unfortunately, I find it very hard to obtain papers such as Rhodia and Clairfontaine in my country. So far, there is only one known seller of these brands and many of their stocks wont last for 2 weeks.

I dont think there is anyone selling Tomoe River here too. However, if i come across any of them, i will definitely give them a try :)

Oh that is a challenge. I am sorry I don't have any helpful recommendations for you. I am in the USA and I ordered Tomoe River from here:

http://www.paperforfountainpens.com/collections/all

He does ship internationally but it is probably expensive. It might be less expensive for you to try to order it from Japan.

Maybe checking out the regional focus forum and see if there are people near you that share some recommendations?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
