Recommended Posts

Dear Friends,

We start off the new year by meeting in February 2015, on Sunday, February 22nd, at 2pm. As in past meetings, we will meet at the Plymouth Road Sweetwaters Cafe. the address of the cafe is as follows:

Sweetwaters Cafe ( in the Plymouth Green complex)

3393 Plymouth Road

Ann Arbor, MI-48105

We will be doing the usual, trying out and checking out all kinds of pens, papers, paraphernalia etc. Also, Keith as reminded me to ask you all to bring all the pens, and inks and other accessories that you would like to sell or trade.

Also, we have a standing invitation to go visit and check out Brian Gray and his Edison Pen Company workshop. Keith will have info about this, and we will be discussing the possibility of the Ann Arbor Pen Posse making a group trip down to Milan, Ohio, to visit with Brian and his Edison Pen Company.

As usual, please put your comments/questions on theis thread, and I or Keith or Martin will try to get answers to you ASAP.

Thank you.

-Sid

I won't get my schedule for another couple of weeks yet, but if I'm not working, we'll try to be there. I'm glad the date is later in the month, at any rate (current theatre production finishes its run on the 8th). And a trip to Edison Pen Co. sounds fantastic!

I'm a relative newcomer here on FPN and was invited by Sid to the Pen Posse. I look forward to meeting all of you and the possibility of going to the Edison Pen Company workshop is quite exciting!

Best,

Amit

Jenny and Amit- yes, we will probably going to visit Edison Pen Co. in Milan, Ohio, in March. The weather will be better then, and when we have out February Pen Posse meeting, Keith will fill us in on the details of the trip. It is going to be fantastic!!!!!

Awe. Well I can't do Saturdays because of work. If/when I'm lucky I can get a Sunday off...

Are you guys the only Michigan club? Or southeastern Michigan I should say?

Stoof- we are meeting on a Sunday, on Sunday, February the 22nd. Where are you located at? The Michigan Pen Collectors also have regular monthly meetings. Check out their website, they meet somewhere in Oakland County.

I wrote the membership person on the site. Forget the name.... Was concentrating on writing the right person.

But I hope to hear.

Thanks very much, sir.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
