Manufacturers since 1864, Diamine Inks relocated to this purpose built 'state of the art' factory in Liverpool in 1925, where they successfully carried on using the traditional methods and formulas for ink production. Over the years the company has changed hands and are now located close to the world famous Aintree Race Course

As I've mentioned few times I have mixed feelings about Diamine inks, however I tend to use them from time to time. They have some amazing colors. Last year Diamine inks introduced their 150th anniversary inks in triangle bottles:

There are eight colors in this series of inks:

  1. Blue Black
  2. Blue Velvet
  3. Carnival
  4. Regency Blue
  5. Safari
  6. Silver Fox
  7. Terracota
  8. Tropical Green

Safari: Best in the class.

Silver Fox: I enjoy this color.

SUMMARY

Diamine offered eight interesting inks. I would consider getting only two of them.

I really LOOOOVE this collection. I will never buy Tropical Green... but the rest of the colors are quite nice. Safari is the winner for me too.

Great review visvamitra, so thank you! I've got some but not all of them, but my favourite is silver fox because it has awesome shading. Then safari because it looks noticably different to the other greens by D.

I must have missed it where you've said this, but why the mixed feelings? Most of them seem pretty good to me

I really like Regency Blue, which is a true dark blue rather than a blue/black. It's a very elegant ink, but does show a touch of dryness. Haven't been able to get my hands on any of the others yet.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

how close is the Safari to the Salamander?

Similar hue but quite different. Safari has more yellow.... Salamander has more grey...

Are these inks going to be available in the US anytime soon, or should we just order straight from Diamine?

They been out for awhile now in the US market. I believe they came out on November in the UK. Soon after (a few weeks later) they were in the US... Check with Goulet Pens, Vanness, Anderson.... you know the usual suspects.

The full set doesn't seem to available but Goulet and Vanness have them separately. I'm sure Jet Pens does too.

Someone got me the full set for Christmas. What a great gift! The Terracotta is beautiful. The Silver Fox and the Safari are also beautiful. The Carnival is a great red. I really like the Blue Velvet and Regency Blue is also lovely. The Tropical will have it's place somewhere down the road. The Blue Black is just a good blue black.

Nice to have them in a lovely little circle on my work table.

They don't come in a set.. they come in individual boxes, and are sold individually by Diamine and everyone else.

You have good friends.

Just to add some comments....... I've been using the Silver Fox in a vintage pen to practice my Copperplate writing. It has very nice shading. A soft gray that does look very silver. I've been using the Terracotta in a pen with a straight oblique nib. It has a richness that I really just enjoy looking at. The Safari is a beautiful shade. I have some Private Reserve Avocado that I like very much. The Safari is less color intense than the Avocado but that also allows for some shading with Copperplate. The Carnival is a dark red leaning more towards the blue-red palette. Again, very rich. The blues are all nice blues. The Blue Velvet is very vibrant and very....well...velvety. The Regency Blue is just a nice dark blue. I like it but it didn't keep me from ordering a bottle of Shin Kai. I haven't used the Tropical Green much yet. It's very bright so it may get used in some artwork down the road. It's still a nice color.

I do delight in seeing my circle of inks. I may not have bought all 8 colors, but I'm glad that I have them and I look forward to playing with all of them. I just wish my Pilot 742 liked Diamine inks. It seems to only want to run on expensive Iroshizuku.

Really liking the look of the Safari. It reminds me of the Montblanc Defoe special, without the price hike.

I'd taken a liking to the Diamine ink range but I'm still waiting for my first few to be delivered. I'd be very interested in any words of caution before I pop any into my Montblanc. It's OBB nib is crying out for an ink with great shading and suggestions would be very welcome.

Cheers, Paul

Goulet has them on the site both individually and as a set. They are, indeed, out of stock in all colors.

All the usual sources are out of stock.

We have 5 of the colors in stock currently, but should be restocked within a week or two on the remaining colors. Shoot us an email and we can give you a reply when restocked.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
