Hello,

What is the difference in Estone Jinhao and Jinhao. Was looking at the Jinhao 159 and saw it under both names on Amazon. Is Estone the same company is something fishy going on. Thanks in advance.

It's probably just the name of the importer. I'm wondering why you suspect something "fishy" going on.

Jekostas,

In looking through some older post, I remembered reading that there are knock-off of some very inexpensive pens. After several attempts to find info on Estone Jinhao, the only thing that comes up is the advertisement on Amazon. Estone also appears to be a copy write name, Being very new to buying fountain pens on line, I noticed some differences in the descriptions, even the weight.?? Not really red flags but I was interested to know the difference before ordering.

  • 2 weeks later...

Still no real answer to my question but I did get a Estone Jinhao 159 in the mail yesterday. The cap fell into pieces and there is a small dent in the body. The dent could have happened in shipping and a few drops of super glue took card of the cap. I cleaned is as per instructions and inked it with Noodlers Bad Green Gator. I gotta say, I could not put It down. Due to its large size, I had to change my writing style a little. That is ok because it requires me to use a little more wrist and arm and not do all the writing with finger movements. Great pen and not a knock off for sure.

K3EAX,

The only thing I can read on that envelope is my address. Otherwise, I like it well enough that the little dent does not matter. I'm happy.

Have been very satisfied with the Estone Jinhao 159 so this evening I ordered, from Amazon, an Estone Jinhao X750 for $4.19 including shipping. Will give more details in about three weeks when its arrives.

On Amazon I see the term Estone Jinhao #159. However, this is a Jinhao 159 fountain pen. When your scroll down on Amazon you will see the product description, and the word Estone is not noted. Did a bit of research to discover the connection. Estone is involved in automotive products. NOTE: Estone is dedicated to be the best choice for one-stop OEM manufacturing on automotive video and audio solutions. Our combination of best-of-breed technology solutions and best quality control provides the best value for our clients. Also discovered that Jinhao has - Jinhao Motor Company - engages in the production and distribution of motorcycles and small engines in the People’s Republic of China. It provides gasoline-powered motorcycles; and off-road battery cars, including sight-seeing, police patrol, and golf cars, as well as focuses on offering electric vehicles. The company sells its motorcycles and electric cars to wholesalers through export agents, as well as directly to distributors. Estone is much like a distributor for the Jinhao pens. Since the Chinese do business differently than Americans, I believe this is where the connection might begin.

Thanks Helen for the reply. I saw some Estone info when googling but did not make the connection. That is great detective work on your part. I have decided that the company is legit. It bothered me that the customer reviews were high and the prices low. I made another order from them. By the way, they ship really fast for the distance they travel.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
