Some time ago Tinjapan send some Sailor LE ink to Sisnistral1 who, in turn, sent what was left from the samples after her creative efforts to me. Thank you guys. Hopefully this reviews will be helpful to some.

Deep in the Mountains (Shin-Zen) is labelled as Shousaikan - maybe someone more oriented than me could elaborate on this place / shop?

Deep in the Mountains has nice name and nice color. I like such hues a lot.

I got this fairly recently after a long search. Very, very nice ink. It's a little like a light Sailor Kingdom Note Tana Japonensis, but has better shading. All my purchases since have been in this spectrum!

This is exactly what I thought. Really nice color.

Well, it's nice but happily to my wallet I find Franklin Christoph's Olde Emerald or R&K Alt-Goldgrun more enjoyable.

You should try Burma Road Brown... @12.50 for 90ml... (this side of the pond) ... is even better for the wallet..

When I saw this color, my first thought was Sinistral1, Cyber6 and visvamitra will totally dig this color, sounds like you all like it, but not enough to justify the cost.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

  • 2 years later...

I just found a bottle (new/unopened) and got it for $41 USD... I spent quite a bit of time on Japan mainland south of Hiroshima at MCAS Iwakuni in the early 90's. At any rate my buddy picked it up for me in what is a different prefecture than its intend home. My shop is in Hirioshima and so he swung by to pick it and some Preppy's this past week and he'll be bringing it back to the states next week, so I'll do a review for you. The store in the prefecture where it's specifically designed for and sold has it currently listed on they're overseas sales page at ¥2100 (or ~$320 USD). So anyway, I'll do a review and set up some samples for people here soon (it's not like I paid the crazy amounts for it). I still get my Japanese stuff from the same store I began with in 1992 and have buddies bring my purchases back to save postage when I can (sadly we've all about retired out now)

MY first thought was "Ick". My second thought was "Claudia will LOVE this ink"..... ;)

Thanks for the review. Definitely not a color for me, but knowing what not to get is often more valuable.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I know of many who say so, but that which I've seen I think would look great on 'browner' papers for sure. Particularly on my handmade business cards (a heavyweight bonded card stock), addressing envelopes, and holiday cards. Just a thought, but I can understand why it pushes some people's buttons. -B

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
