Here is my new Nakaya Desk Pen Stand in the Aka tamenuri finish. The stand is absolutely gorgeous, the image does not do it justice.

That is gorgeous! I first saw your photo of the stand posted in a different thread, and I haven't stopped drooling since I saw it. LA show is coming up and I had planned on looking for my second Nakaya. Maybe.... maybe....

This must have been the weekend for Nakaya Desk pens and bases. I picked one up myself.

Another real beauty! As for "How long can you leave a pen in one without it drying out?" I do not know.

My home office has a neo standard in a desk pen stand at all times. I have never had a problem with the pen drying out or starting slowly. I suspect it has sat unused in the stand for up to two weeks although it usually gets used daily.

In the past, I have had portable and naka ai pens in stands with the same results.

Thank you both for answering. A Nakaya is on my must list but would probably be a desk pen the majority of the time since posting the cap is discouraged. I could always use a "pillow" but the stand would be more convenient.

That's a beautiful pen stand, congrats! I really want one of the "sword stand" ones.

I am in the process of picking up a Nakaya Desk Pen too in the Aka tamenuri finish with a fine nib and 7/10 ink flow. :)

UPDATE: Actually, I decided to hold off on the Desk Pen and went instead with a Nakaya Neo Standard Shu (Red) Polished. Fine nib with an ink flow set to 7/10. The fact is that I use the stand for bot my Naka-ai and Neo Standard (both in Aka tamenuri) already.

The nice folks at nibs.com shipped the pen today.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
