Kingdom Note Docus Hopei Binodulosus

I don't like black inks. I have always found them terribly boring. Why would I use the colour of every regular pen ever? If I wanted that, I should just go back to a roller ball!

But this ink is incredible! there's no shading, but is actually a bonus, because I hate the blacks that shade towards gray; I feel they lack commitment.

The only shading I could say it has is the very tips of the text, which shades ever so slightly lighter. But it's rare and barely noticeable, and I think it adds to the appeal.

It genereally behaves well, except is it the singluar wettest ink I've EVER tried. In my Waterman Laureat, every now and then is would just come sluicing out, like the 'p' below, and where it pooled on the page that heavily, it bled through.

However, my Laureat is an ancient, super wet pen, so I have a good feeling that this would work in general in regular pens that don't tend towards being firehoses. I strongly suggest against using this with a 1.3 Homo Sapien stub, unless it's on TR paper and you have no intention of using the other side.

Having said all of that, the sheen is what gets me. It's the totally funky green-gold combination that is shocking.

It sheens on absorbent paper too.

Oh, wondering how it looks on rhodia dotPad??? Check out the pretty outlining!

I also got a gorgeous mix when I paired this with KN's Falcon ink - less wet, still dark, and a slightly subdued but still great green-gold sheen.

Overall, this is my one and only black I'll use.

More pictures of pretty sheen here!

Amazing sheen.

Wow. You sold me.

+1

I don't usually use black ink but have been wanting to get one and this one has everything I am looking for: dark, wet and very sheeny! Thank you for another great review and for introducing me to yet another ink I would never have thought to order!

My tastes are ordinary. One good, black ink is the only black I want. I keep and use only a half dozen

inks. But, by the stars, I DO LOVE YOUR PASSION ! ! !

I would buy that ink for the name alone. I've never seen a black ink with a sheen - wow! Where does one acquire this ink?? I think I must add it to my collection of little black inks. Thanks for the review!

Okay, I did what I should have done in the first place and looked up the ordering source in the ink review section. So tempting. Thanks for that info!

+1 with Sasha. I actually have a number of black inks and I like them all. I like all the other wonderful inks I have too. And every time saskia posts a review it makes me want to get another ink. Even though I myself don't buy ink because they sheen or shade.

But the reviews are so lovely as are the inks. Thanks for sharing your passion and joy.

I m not into black ink... but this one has a very interesting sheen.

The sample at Kingdom Note looks nothing like your writing sample Saskia... @KN looks like a dark sepia.

Quite a difference!

BTW, I can tell I was reading too fast because this ink became Hocus Pocus....

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Count me in as another who has never seen a black ink sheen like that. Looks like another $42.30 to hobby-japan. (Sigh)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
