Kingdom Note Trametes Versicolor

I came to a love of blue-blacks/dark navy blues really late in my pen and ink life, but it's definitely got me in its grips now. And as such, I completely love this ink.

My main beef with blue-blacks is that there is too much black and not enough blue. But to my eyes, this ink is the perfect balance.

It does change its look a bit depending on the paper ...

... but it pretty much looks great all the time, so I'm not too worried!

It's got nice shading too ...

... and great sheen!

Ha! It took me a while to get there. I started using a fountain pen 23 years ago, and just start liking blue-blacks two years ago, so perhaps you've got some time? :P

In all fairness, I'd probably categorize this as a night or navy blue, rather than a blue-black.

Definitely an ink I'd like to get someday. Sadly the ink budget right now is at zero. Oh well. I have saskia's wonderful review to entertain me!

Affection toward blue/blacks is still ahead of me and I can't see it coming :)

I didn't think I'd like blue blacks at all -- until I started flushing some unidentified ink out of an Easterbrook SJ I found in an antiques mall a couple of years ago. Then it was a *completely* different story, and I tried to search for a modern ink that would match the color and shading of whatever that ink was. Ended up with Noodler's Manhattan Blue (for the shading) and Diamine Denim (for the color).

After that, I saw the light and now have a lot of other blue blacks and greyish blues.

As I go on, I'm finding more and more that -- in general -- I don't want "primary" colors: I want inks that are a little more subtle, and are more nuanced in tone. And I get that with a lot of blue blacks.

ETA: Thanks for the review, Saskia -- this (unfortunately) looks like another ink that I want to get my hands on at some point, only the budget won't really allow it....

I'm getting to like dark blues, like Diamine Regency Blue, but there are a lot of blue-blacks that turn me off because they have a green or teal cast. One that does not is Iro Shin-kai--that gray with a hint of blue is chilling.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

I can see liking this one. Thanks for the review!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Saskia thank you for review!

I had an opportunity to try this one in wonderfull pen - Van Gogh Room in Arles (thank you Vis!) and I must say, my first impression was: what a sad color ;)

I prefer blue like Robert Oster Blue Sea or Ottoman Azure By Noodlers. I'm not (i was not?) a fan of blue black.

But with time, I was discovering this one as very interesting color, great balance between blue and black, wonderful hue of blue and shining... with time I start to love this one. The perfect every day ink.

But the sample finished.

I'm so depressed its price and availability.... I think I can only find a replacement.

Do you know something close to this one? With close hue of blue, and maybe with shining?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
