Sheaffer 271 Gold Electroplated Set

I would suggest care if you polish it. I had a model 875 with the diamond-cut gold electroplated finish and actually removed a little of the gold plating by polishing.

...or maybe they were removed to be used on another pen. If the pen were intended to be clipless it would not have the hole for the clip in the cap. Sheaffer would not ship a pen without the clip if it was supposed to have one. Some weird stuff has made it out of Ft Madison since first closing of the service center in 2008.

Here is the article I did about it awhile ago. http://sheafferking.org/?p=45

Read your article. My pen is not the skinny one. It takes the standard Sheaffer converter that is fitted in the Imperials of 1970s. You can clearly see it in the pictures. It is the size of Prelude and Sagaris and perhaps thicker than Sheaffer 100. Please have a look at the pictures afresh.

Those I have tinkered with definitely take standard Sheaffer carts/ converters, so I'm sure they are Fashion IIs. I have a Fashion ballpoint on the way, it may be possible to cannibalise the missing clip.

It's been long enough since I was in the service center that I don't remember whether or not they were the same. I'll have to rummage through the parts bins to see what I have. I know that I have TRZ BP tops (got them after I tossed the BP after 25 years). Scads of them, and I don't repair BP pens. Don't know about the Fashion pens clips though. They just slide into place.

Hi Mitto, I made an account just to thank you for identifying this set. I have had one of those fountain pens from my father before he passed away. And I just couldn't figure out what model it is (no box, not much else to go on on the pen itself). But now I know! Thanks!

Awesome site, btw. :)

I mean your Sheaffer 271 pen set. Or is it just an FP?

I forgot to say, the ballpoint clip swap went okay, and going by the catalogue pages, looks the same.

So you have now a Fasion ii 271 FP complete with the clip. Congrates.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
