What Do Your Fountain Pen(S) Say About You?

Glancing at the row of giant, oversized pens in my pen case, I think my pens say:

Wetnoodle,

You sir are responsible for making me laugh, a feat hard to do in the early mornings. Thank you!

My pens say that I like color, variety, and am not too choosy about the company they keep, seeing how they're clustered next to a rainbow of gel pens and colored pencils.

So much like the clothes, shoes, and car we own tell us a bit about what we prefer, what do your Fountain pen(s) say about you!?

My fountain pen have a chant. "Sasha is sick. He needs help. Fa-la-la."

Auf freiem Grund mit freiem Volke stehn.
Zum Augenblicke dürft ich sagen:
Verweile doch, du bist so schön !

Parker as I understand it was quite the power house when it came to FP's back in the day along with Waterman, but all I see for Parker FP's are terrible reviews. What gives?

It really depends on the model to be honest. When I was younger cheaper Parker pens were widely available this was in the early 2000's before the likes of lamy and Pilot had really taken off in the UK and Parker's were still made in the UK. So I've owned most of the low cost Parker fountain pens at one point or another. There are still some good pens such as the Frontier which is a real favorite of mine that I consider the best budget pen and a pen I use as an everyday pen hence why I own 3. The Sonnets also a nice pen if you get one with good nib, I really love the design of it a perfect blend of old and new.

My pens, for those who know pens, would tell you how much I hate waste (using cartridges and throwing them away) or how much I avoid needles (needed to refill said cartridges).

The only exception to my collection of piston fillers (Pelikans, etc) is my Kaweco Lilliput. If only Kaweco made a decent converter for this pen....

Seeing as how my pens are learning Polish, they have no idea how to construct a grammatically correct sentence, unless they are talking to the dog. Which they don't do, cos the dog thinks they are sticks, for chewing or playing chase with the yelling lady.

Not sure what my pens say. Probably something about being understated and not flashy, but liking variety. The inks, on the other hand, probably say that I can't make up my mind about what I like, and go "Ooh, shiny" a lot.

Most of my pens are black and modern without a lot of flair or flashiness. They say "Let's get back to basics..." The pens I like most are the ones that are low maintenance and reliable with good solid construction, since I carry them around a lot.

ParkersandPilots,

I like what you described my friend. They are the workhorses!

inkstainedruth,

Sounds like you have a party of pens and inks! A very "diverse" fountain pen collection. Awesome!

ethernautrix,

Your pens must be terrified of the dog! Seems like your dog has taken the liking to using them as well, no? Thank you for your post!

ndrwcn,

That is a good trick! I must use that someday. ( I dislike needles as well.) What about Kaweco's converter troubles you?

Debraji,

Thank you for taking the time to upload that photo of your collection. I definitely enjoyed it! Much love for the Lamy! Is that a red Edison ?

Your pens look like they may be the life of the party! Loving the colors.

All of my pens say that I'm rather fickle when it comes to ink colours. Always changing them to see which ink suits which pen the best! But they're also quite happy to be in my possession because they're always cleaned extremely well and written with at least once a week. :)

One of them is rather silent though. They're getting ready to pack and move out to their new owner, who will no doubt admire them even more than me.

Like yourself joshua.andrews59 I am mostly interested in the business end of FPs. I use them for the same reason I prefer to correspond with my family and friends by writing letters; because in a world of instant communication where my working day is spent extolling the virtues of technology enhanced learning they require an investment of time, patience and a little effort to do so.

So I hope what my pens say about me is that he is prepared make an effort for those he loves.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
