What is a better pen material? Polyester Resin (PR) or Ebonite?

 

I am asking someone to make a custom pen for me and gave me a choice between those 2 materials. Both look good visually, but i guess it breaks down to the freedom on customization. Well, visually at least.

 

Ebonite has far less color choices, while PR has a near unlimited range of color choices. What is a better material? I want to take the PR as the material but i am afraid of the material being brittle. I have no qualms about ebonite except for the limited color choices.

 

So in short, PR or Ebonite? What are the pro's and cons of them?

It looks like the biggest pros and cons are the ones you already listed. I'd choose your color and preferences of customization first and then see whichever material can be used to fill the order though. If you get too hung up on material first, you may overlook a detail you could have customized or fine tuned more to your liking.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
