Fountain Pen Ink Bar - Georges & Co.

Has anyone ever been here? I just found an article on this place on Pinterest, and the display is sooooo pretty.

There's a papeterie in Paris called Georges & Co. and they have an Ink Bar where you buy empty bottles and mix your own colors.

I cannot handle the colors so orderly in a row. I have a mighty need to visit this place.

I think I see a photo of recipe ideas on the left side. I think I would be standing in front of it for hours trying to narrow down what to make. Definitely on my lifetime goals.

That's a neat idea.... I can see a lot of "newbies" making tons of mistakes... and having to purchase their mistakes.

When I do ink mixing.. there is a lot of "trial and error".... and I am no newbie at it. ;)

But their web page seems to be alive

http://georgesandco.com

Yes, but I am not sure it is on. The company was dissolved.

They should have closed it. They have made things a little no matter how, actually. But I can assure you their store is closed since last year.

Using my google-fu I have determined the following.

The shop is gone.

Using the picture shown here: http://www.mohawkconnects.com/feltandwire/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/BUSSER_PH_DSC6753-570.jpg

together with the address, I determined the shop is on the opposite side of an orange framed shop. This was the case in 2012 https://www.google.be/maps/@48.8546323,2.3242075,3a,75y,274.04h,80.62t/data=!3m5!1e1!3m3!1sF6f0OIUuJuGBnal-TeqYMg!2e0!5s20120701T000000

Today there is a paper-related shop named Fabrano Boutique http://fabrianoboutique.tumblr.com/post/82775890730/fabriano-boutique-paris-ready-to-open-rue-du

Google street view recently: https://www.google.be/maps/@48.854656,2.3242271,3a,24.2y,269.31h,80.93t/data=!3m5!1e1!3m3!1sO9clOawYpmxka8_aZSoS9w!2e0!5s20140701T000000

I'm interested in why this shop failed, that is -if- it failed, maybe they didn't feel like it anymore. I see a huge amount of issues in the pictures, but anyone know why they quit?

It failed, absolutely. Financially it didn't work (a friend went to their sales, before they closed and she could talk to the owner).

I think they didn't have enough variety for it to be an intereswting store. Too hipe, too much on the looks but not diversified enough.

It might be an interesting concept to pair with a cafe, probably with a Victorian aesthetic. That way you have some other business means to offset the cost, as well as the potential of attracting new customers to the fountain pen hobby.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
