Alternative Nibs For Ohto Dude Nibs? / Fpr #5 & #5.5 Nibs Thickness

Hi guys,

I was wondering, does anyone knows where could I get an alternative nib for Ohto Dude?

I tried FPR's flex and normal #5.5 nibs but it didn't fit well (seems like the nib is too thick).

EDIT: I was also wondering if anyone knows if a FPR #5 nib is thinner than an FPR #5.5 nib?

It may be like some companies and uses a proprietary nib shape/size, so you might not be able to just fit a Jowo shape #5/etc into it. (Much like how how you can't stick a Jowo shaped nib into a Bock-shaped feed/section, or proprietary fittings).

Also I'm not seeing anything specific pop up in searches to possible nibs that could fit the Ohto other than their own.

The FPR #5.5 nib kinda fits except that the thickness of the nib is slightly too thick =\

Ohto dude uses Scmidt number 4 thats a start

It says size 7 on my feed though, does it say 4 on yours?

The # on the feed means nothing, if you get enough of them they'll say different numbers, it has no relations to the nib size.

I'm looking at macro pics it's too big for a number 5 nib... do you have a faber-castell Emotion, Ambition. Loom or basic try that one

if it fits then that just says my belief its a small nib number 4 if it is then Muji compact or the full pen will fit or unless you can find ways to procure a schmidt nib

Okay then. =)

The FC nib fits Muji full pen actually.

Haven't tried FPR on the Muji pen as I gave it away.

Schmidt probably I'll try indypendance I guess. I thought of the substitution as the feed reminds me of some jinhaos feed with that groove, figured the manufacturer must be the same, so perhaps if the #6 nib fit the Jinhao, the #5 should work I guess.

Levenger uses Schmidt nibs in the True Writer pens. I believe it is a #5 though. (i compared it to the #6 I bought from Goulet and it is smaller)

  • 3 years later...

Could someone explain me how to remove the nib on this pen? I damaged the feed when trying to do so and the feed and nib are still stuck...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
