Recommendations For Notebook That Will Take Edelstein Sapphire

I am looking for an A5 notebook with FPN friendly paper that will take Pelikan Edelstein Sapphire ink so that I can use my Pelikan M215 with custom cursive stub. I just love the quality of this blue ink, but I have tried different papers, mainly 90gsm and they all seem to bleed through.

Any suggestions that don't cost too a fortune or require me to import to UK?

Just purchased one journal from this FPN member it is fantastic. I liked the journal so much that I purchased 2 more.

He writes the story of the journal on the back page and uses a stub 1.1 nib and there is no bleed through or feathering. Here is a link to his journal. He is in Singapore.

Thanks but they are expensive and in Singapore...

My acid test for bleedthrough is a 1.9mm music nib using Rohrer & Klingner Verdigris.

The only notebooks I've used that reliably do not bleed with that combination are: Quo Vadis Habana, Tomoe River, and Leuchtturm. None are cheap, but of the 3, Leuchtturm is the least expensive and probably the most available.

Oxford notebooks, Pukka pads, other 90 gsm paper notebooks (can't recall names).

Does it bleed through Oxford? That sound strange. Is there a sharp edge on the nib of your pen so it cuts the paper? In the nib extremely wet?

Can I suggest getting a Carnet Banditapple sample to try, and some Tomoe River sample sheets both of which are cheap. If you like them then you can spend some cash :)

Worth a look at the Journal Shop website too.

You can get a sampler of various notebooks for a relatively low price from Goulet Pens. I learned quite a bit from trying these out. Some nibs and ink are going to bleed through or feather no matter now good the paper is. It's always a ballet between nib, ink, and paper, and there's no example of any of them that's always going to be successful with any of the other two. Even with the better papers, I have gotten in the habit of writing just on one side--keeps the old blood pressure down.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
