Leuchtturm1917 Soft Cover?

The Leuchtturm1917 Soft Cover Large notebooks were on sale at a place near me called Half Price Books for about $7. I got one, tried it out and loved it! I went back and bought the other two at the store, but when I look for them online, I get puzzled. They're still in Leuctturm's collection, but even places that are carrying their other notebooks don't seem to have them. Does anyone know if they've been discontinued, or heard anything else? I don't think three are going to hold me for very long!

Is this the kind you are referring to?

Looks like Amazon has them (although you sure got a great price!). It seems like most Leuchtturm products are preceded by the name "Kikkerland," so you might want to try searching on that.

Yes, that's it. (And yes, I got a fantastic price!) But I forgot a detail. I can find the black books easily enough, but it's the colored ones I can't find very easily. Sorry about that! I got a blue and two pink ones. I love these enough that I can probably be happy with the black ones, but I'd be much happier with some bright colors. :)

I'm guessing you have a Miata? Me, too! We have a 2010 copper red, with the power hard-top. My parents are on their third Miata, a 2009.

Good guess! Mine is a '96 red -- a little creaky, but still hot! ;) I definitely like the colored covers on the Leuchtturms, too. . . but I've seen them only in hardcover. They are actually my favorite all-purpose journal now because they are fountain-pen friendly while still being reasonably priced (compared Rhodia, etc).

If it does turn out to be too difficult to find the colored soft covers, I might try a hardcover, but for some reason I just like softcovers better. And with these, they actually fold all the way back on themselves -- love it!

I love the soft covers. I wish there was less ghosting and bleed through but love the surface of their paper (make my pens run little wetter too) and I like the soft covers b/c they lay perfectly flat.

My main problem (besides the bleed through and ghosting) is I find their ruling comically narrow. If i can find blank in the soft cover (red would be amazing) then I would use that with a guide sheet. To add to the comedy their included guide sheets have rulings that are too wide. heh.

I have the Master series with the 100gms paper and find the bleed through and ghosting to be exactly the same and the huge size is a drag so I am going back to the regular "Large" size.

I'm using fine and extra-fine nibs and am not having trouble with bleed through, and I've never minded ghosting much, but I can see that this paper is right on the edge for people with wetter pens that I like. I've decided I need to test all my pen/ink combos on the back page before I use them in the notebook, just to be safe. :)

I find the narrow rule just the right size for me, but I write small (goes along with the preference for F&X/F nibs). I'm sorry the guide sheet is too wide for you -- have you thought about printing out your own? Would that work? I'll keep that in mind if I find one of the blank ones myself -- I had wondered about those.

I just love how they feel in my hands! It's surprising me how much this hobby can be about tactile experiences.

Yeah I am trying to make my own but so far have failed to get it just right. heh. You need to make the lines the right size for your hand, and cut it so that it sits right underneath perfectly and print it bold enough that you can see it. I'll keep trying but in the meantime I have a bunch of lined notebooks to use up first.

I could NOT resist the allure of the city series (I have Seoul (how could I not) and Paris) so yeah, I bought some books knowing the lines are too small for me unless I used my 51 vac or my Sailor F (in reality XXXXXXXXXXXF heh).

I can't really use both sides of the page. I think it looks poor. So much shows through.

But I use these books because I like the surface of that paper so much. As you say: tactile. I find the paper has a little tooth to it and I am finding I don't like glassy paper. I like paper that draws rivers of ink out of your pen.

Every pen I have writes better on the lectuwrkhrkatiwykjherum1917 paper and it was one of the few nice papers you could get when I first arrived. Now we get a lot of the Japanese (MD, LIFE) and CF paper too, but I really do like the format and construction of the book and especially like the soft cover ones since they lay perfectly flat.

ah looks like Paris is blank (and Red, my favorite).

Need to use up Seoul first. (obviously these are what they call the "Large" size and hardcover).

Love my Large (A5) Leuchtturm1917 notebook. (I think it is a hardcover- came as part of a Goulet package set that included Noodler's Black and a black Pilot Metropolitan)

I don't mind the ghosting.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
