The large "blackish" pen in the second row looks like a Parker Challenger. The stainless caps look similar to many Sheaffer/Parker/Wearever slip cap pens. The ringtop could be any number of BCHR pens. But those are all just guesses.

Like you, Flounder, I keep my Kindle Paperwhite in airplane mode and have seen several fountain pen screensavers (I practise handwriting by copying passages from books but the Kindle always goes to sleep on me thus displaying the screensaver). I'm always pleased to see them, but have never attempted to identify the pens.

The one in the second row from the front with a rounded top could possibly be a Parker 51, but that's just a guess; need to see more than just the end of the cap to really identify them.

The second one from the left in the second row (next to the black pen) might be a Sheaffer -- but that sort of splotch on the top makes me think it also might be a Montblanc. The one diagonally behind it in the third row is making me think "Parker 21?"; the last one on the right in the second row (third row?) halfway off the edge of the screen, appears to be an Easterbrook J series pen from the cap jewel (a regular one, not a Tranny with a toaster top).

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I agree, I thought so too, so held mine up and it matches.

I wonder how I can get that onto my K2?

I just have a bunch of old dead people on mine, nothing interesting like that.

I've noticed that most of my Kindle Paperwhite screen savers seem to be pen related, with dip pens and what seem to capped fountain pens. Also some pencils and at least one mechanical typewriter. Maybe a conscious effort to link the new technology to the past.

I love those screensavers, they also have one with dip pens and others featuring various stationery.

I found some more! And the dip pen. The dip pen screensaver is really gorgeous, better than I could photograph. I was surprised the paperwhite screen could render it so well.

kaputnik, I'm glad it's not Amazon omni-spying on my browsing!

This is spooky. I've never let my Paperwhite2 go online (no wifi) and had to register it by phone, and load books via usb; I purchase the occasional pen, ink, paper etc from Amazon and I also get these pen-related screensavers. I wonder if Amazon are 'spying through the ether' and sending interest related screensavers to my Kindle? Just a thought.

No

They are standard screensavers. They have had the ones featured above for at least 3 years, in the 2 models of kindle i have owned.

Just wondering, why do you not let it go online? You will be missing out on some software upgrades at a minimum. and being able to get a book in seconds is so useful.

My kindle doesn't go online purely because I have (by preference) wired internet. I use homeplugs to transfer the signal round the house and have to plug the computer into these using an ethernet wire. This is an example:

A long time ago, I used to pinch the students' unsecured wifi back at my old address. I found that this gave me a headache (a literal one) on either side of my temples, which lines up with where the antennae were situated on the laptop I had then. I prefer not to use wifi because I'm sensitive to it.

In my case, I am trying to cut down on amazon purchases, so upload from other sources by USB. Also, not all software 'upgrades' are worthy of the name - I dislike how my paperwhite handles PDFs now.

Mine always shows those picture. I have the wifi only paper white model. I don't if it is because my sister bought it for me on a trip to the states and because I'm in the wrong region I don't get adverts.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
