Rats. I really liked that one.

But thanks for the heads up, nonetheless.

ETA: Am I seeing things? Are there actually some *new* colors? Anyone know anything about these and what they're like?

Ditto on the Blue Merle. Have one bottle. OS had a nice touch with 'vintage-looking' inks but this was definitley a fave

While we can lambaste other manufacturers for making LE inks Tyler in one fell swoop has brought the whole company into the LE realm.

Don't worry though. I'm sure they'll appear on EBay $$$$$$ :)

Woot, I ordered Genghis Khan, Khaki, and Blue Crab. That'll get me all the sepias, and all the vintage inks that I know of.And the Genghis Khan is a red with a gold shimmer....!

Ruth, of the inks I researched, there were prior references in my web searches. For example, the white box set was available at the DC pen show, only to disappear. Other inks are mentioned on the OS site.

PS104: Oscar's Copper and Blue crab are vintage style inks.

Other FYI:

My Jane Austen fell apart after a couple months, so if you get that, you might want to use it fast. Santiago, Charles Darwin, and HMS Beagle are quick dry inks.... choose wisely.

I went and looked at the site to see the inks and saw the giveaway they're having for the Sailor pen. This is a bit of a sidetrack, but does it bug anyone else how so many giveaways now are restricted to only people on the social media sites? Not all of us are, and for good reasons. Yes, I know they're trying to use the contest entrants' social connections to widen their company's exposure, but how does it help them any to alienate the percentage of their clients that are excluded by such a requirement? This has become a very common tactic in the past couple of years. And yes, it affects my opinion of companies that do it.

Am I just being a grump or does it bother others?

What do you mean by "fell apart"? Did it separate? Have stuff go out of solution? Something else? I have a sample of it but hadn't gotten around to trying it in the influxes of "ooh shiny" over the past few months, and it just got pushed to the sidelines (although not to the extent of some samples of black inks, or Noodler's Empire Red -- which I've had even longer, I think).

Charles Darwin was one of the most frustrating inks I've ever used -- super black, and super fast drying, but spread and show through like nobody's business. Have not tried the other ones you mentioned.

Oh no! To be honest I love their bottles. I've bought three bottles just after looking at their bottles at the Philadelphia Pen Show.

It does bother me but those are their terms and if you don't like it then express it to them. I can't do anything for you.

As you said, it gets their brand better recognized and if you aren't part of it, you aren't part of it. It is neither right or wrong. You might have you're reasons to stay off of social media but there are many positives to is as well.

So, if you don't like social media, good for you. If you do like social media, good for you.

If Company A wants to expand their recognition, good for them. If Company A doesn't want to expand their recognition, good for them. I think this company wants to expand their recognition so good for them.

please note that I love the organics studio brand. I love the thought he put into every aspect of his inks. emily dickinson is my favorite ink. and who doesnt like cuttlefish?

ruth I think it had a chemical breakdown. the ink became very thin and also it stank terribly. I really liked it and was super disappointed when I went to use it again. however, the current ink on sale is likely a different batch so it may turn out differently.

Sailor and Itoya USA are generously donating the pen for the contest. It is as much about exposure for us as it is for them. I'm sorry you feel alienated by the contest (and was certainly not the intent), but there have been and will be contests in the future that utilize different channels. We have given away pens, ink, notebooks, etc., on our live podcast, we have had mail in giveaways for pens as well. There's always a risk someone will not like the requirements, and while we try to minimize that, we thought this particular idea might be fun.

Honestly G+ slipped my mind, since it is not as often used by folks. Absolutely!

What you could do is shoot them an email, tell them you don't participate in social media but would like to be included in the drawing for the pen if possible. Worst they can do is say no. And you might get included without having to sign up social media site x or y to enter.

I've done that before with other companies. Most times the companies I contacted were disinclined to do so. Brian's response is pretty plain that they are going to continue to be selective, so why face it again?

Multiple times the news has had stories about companies who have a pricing tier system, charging different prices for different customers, which is always criticized. I'm not certain how this is so different from that, in that some customers are given options that others aren't.

As to exposure, it wasn't posted here, nor can I find it on FPGeeks. How is it that social media is so much better for exposure?

There just seems to be a fad among companies for doing things like this. It's gotten bad lately. Which is why I asked if it annoyed others too.

well I am reluctant to say 'HAY GUYS I am obviously spamming my friends to get free stuff' so there is a limit to how much a company can get out of such a thing. doesnt bother me that much when companies ask, except when its facebookendofstory only or apple only, then I get offended.

ironically, I gotta thank linda for pointing it out for me. maybe they will do something with fountainpennetwork next time :D

Well I'd wanted Nitrogen, and Boron. And the Midnight's Blue looks nice. Then they had 8 oz of Mark Twain. So now I have even more ink for the rest of my life. Thanks for letting us know!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
