Any Experience With Papyrus Paper, Notebooks, Etc.?

I was just wondering if Papyrus paper is really good, if anyone uses it a lot and which papers (notebooks, journals), etc. you would recommend for fountain pens with medium or broad nibs.

Thank you for your input. :)

Personally I can't say I've ever bought anything from them, but if you do, let us know how you like them!

If you're thinking of the notebooks made by Cavallini for Papyrus, be careful. I bought a two-notebook set as a souvenir this summer, tested it with fountain pens a few days ago, and it was bad. The ink didn't want to adhere to the paper -- it was like trying to write on a slick surface with a marker. I did some searching online, and found that others have had a similar experience. Note, this was the smaller, paper bound notebooks. Someone on the same threads said the larger, leather bound notebooks had very nice paper.

I don't have any experience with their other products.

I bought some stationary to write some letters today. The paper was REALLY great; absolutely no feathering or bleed-through. Make the inks pop or put another way, really brought out my favorite qualities of Pilot's Syo-Ro. This was one of the Paper and Letter sets. It was not cheap at 25 dollars for 100 sheets and 50 letters, but for nice letter writing they will be put to good use.

I have only had their note cards but have probably used 3 or 4 boxes of them with very pleasant results. I write with a broad nib & have never experienced any feathering. Wouldn't of course be prone to bleed thru on a card.

I bought a box of their cream stationery with a deckle edge (140370) yesterday and have tried it out with nine inks (Diamine, JH, Noodlers BSB, KWZI, Sheaffer and Iro) with nibs ranging from EF to B. Nice paper - no feathering, no bleed through, a bit of show-through with darker inks. You could use both sides of the paper if you were using a light color - Sheaffer Pink (EF stub), Diamine Beau Blue (M) and JH Bouquet d'Antan (M stub) didn't show through at all, Diamine Syrah (B stub) was the biggest offender followed by Diamine Majestic Blue (M stub). The paper has a little texture but it wasn't enough to be unpleasant or problematic.

If you're a Papyrus Perks member they have a buy one, get one half off deal.

Oh! You mean the brand! I thought you were going to give the real stuff a try.

If you do, remember that the ancient Egyptians used brushes for calligraphy. Stubby ones...I don't know how they made it look so good.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
