Fpn Secret Santa

Hi all,

I was wondering how those taking part in the Secret Santa are getting along? Is there already a thread anywhere for us to discuss this? I've taken a lot of time and effort to construct a beauteous parcel for my Santee and I think it would be lovely to hear how everyone's doing, when their parcels arrive, if there are any plans for us to open the parcels together on Christmas Day etc. I know Phonelady put a lot of work into organising it all for us :)

I take part on another online Secret Santa and we have a dedicated thread where we post to say our parcels have arrived safely (for the benefit of anxious Santas who sent them) and then post photos of the parcels before and after unwrapping :) it's always lovely to see what everyone has received!

So! For the record, I haven't received mine.....yet....but there is plenty of time, of course :D

Never read anything about this; was it announced somewhere?

I checked the tracking number for the package I sent, and it was apparently delivered today.

I had fun sort of wrapping most things individually (I actually like wrapping presents, and I think I'm pretty good at it).

Huh? What?

Apparently this Santa is so selective and secret, that the majority of us know nothing about her...him...it....lol The uninitiated, like me, will just have to watch this thread and be jealous. :P

Even though I was able to participate, it was super difficult to find the original thread, even when searching!!! It was started as something else, thus doesn't come up normally when you look for it. No surprise many didn't know about it.

So, what's your point?

Is there an initiation ritual with mysterious shading inks that changes colour by the hour and you have to write a pact called the Unerasable Vow with a Demo PFM with flex nib ?

Damn, I'd love to be in,

It is a shame that more people didn't get to hear about it...I think the rate at which this forum moves, plus the changes to the forum, made it more complicated than it would usually be. I have taken part in Secret Santa on a completely different type of forum for the past 6 years, and typically 80-100 people take part. The organisers are saints! I will help out with organising one here next year if I'm able to :) Phonelady61 organised this one - I hope you're okay Phonelady, you seem a bit quiet at the moment.

Obviously I've no idea if my own Santa is still active here - I hope so because who doesn't like receiving little gifts! - but I'm pretty hopeful that my "Santee" will be happy with their parcel. Finding nice little items and wrapping them up is most of the fun to be honest, as Ruth said :D and well, if the gifts aren't wanted they can aways be PIFed here!

My only worry is that due to bad health problems (nasty cancer issues) I won't get my parcel sent off until Friday, which cuts things fine. Really sorry to my Santee if it doesn't arrive in time for Christmas Day, but it will definitely reach you (not that you even know who you are yet!) xx

The Secret Santa Exchange was initiated in October in The Write Stuff Forum, not in this one, which may explain why some of you missed the original call for participation. There are several threads related to the process in that forum, actually. It is not clear how many people actually participated, because Phonelady61 coordinated the process privately. The intent was for packages to be mailed in the first few days of December, but not everyone has adhered to that schedule so it is unclear how many people have received their packages to date. The recipients of Santa packages have been pretty quiet publicly, though some have communicated with Phonelady61 privately.

Phonelady61 has left FPN, at least temporarily, as she stated in another thread on this topic in The Write Stuff.

Oh, man! It's probably too late now. Maybe next year I'll take part.

I don't even really know what The Write Stuff Forum is/was, so I've no idea how I came to hear about the Secret Santa. Sorry, how confusing! :-( I guess the main thing is that my Santee will receive their gift though. I'll look up TWS sometime tomorrow if I can (it is 2.30am here and I'm due in hospital again in the morning). Thanks, Sharon.

Thank you for the information, Sharon. I don't check the Write Stuff forum very often  so that's why I didn't see anything about this. Very cool that there is even a secret Santa thing happening on FPN, though, and great fun for those who were able to participate. Maybe next year....

@Floreat - "nasty" and "cancer" are words made for each other. :( I hope all will be well with you. Even if a day or so late, your package will get to your Santee and I am sure she or he will be most pleased!

That's not good news!! :( Phonelady61 worked her tail off trying to accommodate everyone with this project. I'm hoping she didn't leave because of something that happened with the Secret Santa process.

Is there a way that all of the threads pertaining to this event could be pulled together by moderators (like, they have nothing better to do) and put under one topic heading???? If it already is and I missed it......shame on me!!!

Phonelady61 was indeed so kind and giving by putting herself into this effort; these are the folks that make you smile when you think of FPN.

Happy Saturday to you all!

I received my surprise package yesterday, but did not open it until this morning. I need to go back and take a closer look at the items inside, because I didn't ahve much time to play. However, there is cocoa to keep me company during winter writing sessions, smart little storage boxes, and stationery, all things that will make me happy. Most of these items are in purple, my runaway favorite color. Someone was paying attention! The inadvertently wittiest gift was a purple Pilot Metropolitatan, because I just ordered the identical pen to give one of my students (she needs to replace a defective JinHao). And the one I ordered for her arrived today!

Point being - figuring out what to get a complete stranger while remaining within breathing distance of the suggested budget was a little difficult, but it was part of the fun. From what I've seen with my own box, there are some very creative folks out there! Those of you who missed the origial sign-up really missed out!

Regards,

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
