Finally Ordered An Omas Arco Paragon

I finally ordered an Omas Brown Arco Celluloid Paragon. I've been admiring the various releases of these pens for years. Recently Omas put out a limited edition version of this pen in the US, it is the Omas Paragon Vintage Arco with a choice of gold, rose gold, or silver trims. Nibs.com reports that there are just 75 of the gold trim available; 75 of the rose gold; and, 50 of the silver. I chose a gold trim pen - that should go nicely with the Arco brown. Unlike most of my other pens, this one will be in a medium nib. This version of the Paragon has three bands of gold rather than the more customary Omas band on the cap. The grip as well as the barrel is in celluloid. Omas has another version out that has a vermeiil gold grip.

I've been "on the wagon" for six months and, at that, have only acquired one pen in the last year. It is an anxious pleasure to await a very special pen in the mail after a hiatus.

Anyone else considering this pen or already purchased it? I'd be interested in your thoughts... Which of the variations of the brown/bronze Omas Arco is your favorite? Do you prefer it over the Verde or like them about the same?

I like the Arco Brown fairly well. First, let me apologize for the quality of my pictures. I usually shoot in natural light, but it is dark out, I have to leave first thing in the morning, and I wanted to respond to your post. I did the best I am able with indoor flash lighting.

Left to right are the piece from the 7 Piece Celluloid Set (note band just above threads), a subsequent piece (no band there), the newest release (which you just ordered) with triple cap band, a recent Milord with the larger clip and roller, and an Ogiva. Yes, I know, I don't have a 360. That's because the 360's don't agree with my writing grip, as my index finger hits on one of the ridges and it is uncomfortable for me.

Here are a couple more shots:

So which do I like best? It really depends on the day. I like them all! Why else would I have bought so many? The one thing I can say for sure is that I definitely feel the gold compliments the brown far better than the silver colored trim.

The pen you have ordered is terrific, and I am sure you will enjoy it a great deal. I'll sure look forward to pictures once you get it!

As for brown vs. Verde? Once again, just a matter of personal taste!

I have the pen you ordered. You are going to love it! I can't match whichwatch for quantity of Arco Browns, but I have two Arco Brown Paragons, one the same release as yours and the other from 1999. Both of mine have nibs custom ground to crisp cursive italics. The celluloid on my two Arco Browns appears the same. I'm not sure the rods weren't manufactured at the same time. Perhaps some one knows.

I also have a Paragon Green Arco. I prefer the Brown Arco color, personally, but YMMV.

Congratulations! You have ordered a pen I think is among the most beautiful ever made by any company. (And it writes beautifully, too.)

whichwatch, What a spectacular collection of Paragons! I notice that the nib on the middle Paragon looks quite different than the other four. That's the one that I ordered so I'll see that one close up soon. :) I also notice that none of your's have the metal grip. I was debating which of the two types to get. Seeing your's I think I chose the right model.

dms525, Having three Arco Paragons is a pretty good indication that you've been satisfied with their performance as well as their good looks.

The green Arco is pretty as well. In the photo it appears blue with green highlights.

Those Arco pens are sooo gorgeous. When I bought my Ogiva Vintage, I got it in Saft Green because I didn't have a green pen and did have brown ones. It's a very nice color and finish, but . . . man, that Arco bronze just calls my name. :)

I agree with David, the Arco Brown is one of the best looking pens around, and all the Omas pens I have are great writers. I have no question you will just love it.

The metal section appears on the newer Paragons which also have the larger clip and roller. I dislike metal sections, so I bought the Milord from that series (fourth from left in my pictures). The Milords from that series are actually larger than the previous Paragons and the Paragons from that series are of course larger yet, and much heavier due to size and the metal section.

It's all personal preference, of course, but I completely agree you chose just the right model.

I bought No. 14/75 (Omas Paragon Vintage Arco, gold trim) at the Dallas Pen Show. This is my first Omas and my first truly flexible nib. I was uncertain for a few days after, whether I had made a good decision, but I have come to love the pen for its beautiful looks and for the way it writes, which suits my light touch very well. I keep it inked with the Omas brown that came with it, and close at hand.

I don't think I would go so far as whichwatch and buy four more so similar in looks, but I can see another Omas in some configuration/color on the horizon.

Congrats! The arco brown is quite unique and my favorite celluloid. I actually had to sell off my old-style Paragon and new-style Milord (#2 and #4 in whichwatch's pic), because both sections were too narrow for my grip. I ended up with the larger new-style Paragon with its wider silver section. It fits my grip better and for some reason silver has a much more tactile feel than steel and doesn't slip. It's probably my favorite pen. I also prefer the brown over the green, but I would definitely buy a new style Paragon in green arco if they made one!

I bought a LE with the yellow gold trim, then immediately dispatched it to Kenro so they could ship it off to Italy to have an EF nib installed. It's been a couple of months now, and I'm eager to get it back and start writing with it.

  • 1 year later...

I'm currently contemplating buying this pen (new style arco Paragon) but they have all disappeared off ebay. If I buy I would have to pay top dollar for it...plus I just ordered an arco Milord...and I already have this finish in the 360 and Ogiva.

But...I can't help thinking the celluloid would look incredible with the heft of the new size Paragon...I guess I better start saving...

I'm guessing the sudden dearth of Paragons is related to the company's demise. Those who sold based on as-required supply from the manufacturer (dealers) no longer have a source, and those private sellers don't tend to come up so often...

Too many pens; too little writing.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
