Minimalistica Demonstrator Bulk Filler Prototype

Hi fountain pen friends !
Attached some pictures of a "Minimalistica +" flat top demonstrator prototype I've just finished in my shop.
Note this pen is slightly larger as the previous version I've posted earlier on.

As stated earlier, the shown clip is a "one time" prototype - to complex to make in series - but since i personally like it, I couldn't resist...
I know, this is not a real "minimalistic" pen, but - except for the clip and cap ring - the standard flat top Minimalistica (+) will look dimensionally very similar.
On the pictures you can see the O ring inside the cap which creates the cap holding tension.
The O ring is diametral 0.8mm compressed by entering the conical shaped barrel front or the filling knob for posting.

Intensive tests have proven this creates a very adequate and dependable holding pretension.
Uncapping/capping/ posting remains very comfortable while slightly turning when pulling the cap.

Note the cap entry bore is also conical leaving diametral 0.2mm space between the barrel bore and the cap.

On the third picture you can see that the front ink chamber is empty, after holding the pen nib up with the filling knob/ ink valve opened the ink stays behind the shut-off valve when closing the filling knob again.

Between the nib housing and the barrel entry you see a silicone grease film, not pretty but inherent to a demonstrator...
Since I keep on in making prototypes, the guys at Conid are getting a little overwhelmed, so it will take a while before this version will go in production!

Dimensions /spec's :
Capped length 139mm
Posted length :160mm
Without cap : 128mm
Diameter on cap ring 15mm
Largest barrel diameter 13.4mm

Filled weight : 28 grams
Ink intake :2.2 ml
Size 6 Bock screw-in nib unit

As always your comments critique and suggestions remain very welcome !
Francis

Posting on that design looks great Francis. Like that a lot. Sounds we're getting the balance just right when posted. I seldom post my standard Conids; they're a tad back heavy, but this design really does look balanced. Terrific work and thanks for the pcs.

I would consider offering that clip at extra cost. I would bet you'd get a lot of takers...

That is an attractive pen, Francis. And I agree with Doug C -- why not add the clip an extra-cost option?

How much would it probably cost?

I really like this pen Francis.

The clip adds a special twist.

Well done!

HI fountain pen friends !

Below a few new pictures of the " Minimalistica +" demonstrator equipped with the new standard titanium clip.

Note i've also installed an O ring at the barrel entry, between the barrel and the nib housing.

Doing so no ink can penetrate when filling the pen while immersing the section front in the ink pot.

Secondary benefit being i don't have to apply silicone grease , so the barrel remains also there transparent.

Wow! I'm relatively new to the world of fountain pens but that looks incredible. I would like to know more information, is that going into production? If so, what are the details? My 2 cents (which are not worth that much especially because they are Canadian :D ), offer the 1st clip as an option, it really adds another dimension to the pen.

Hi John,

Just spoke with Werner, the owner of CONID

Given the positive reactions on the Minimalistica demonstrator, it looks Conid will make a "semi' demonstrator.

Only the barrel will be translucent, de cap will be the standard version made in black Delrin ( POM)

So stay tuned !

Hi John,

The "First Production Run" series of the Minimalistica's should become available at least by mid February 2015

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
