Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Two years ago, FPNer Shawndo, purchased a lot of samples including every blue ink Goulet's had to offer.

Alas, Shawndo ran out of free inky time. I agreed to do these reviews. So here we are.

Amber, I love the colour. It looks a deep purple AND a deep brown on my screen... Which would you say? I see shading and it is lovely. Thank you for sharing!

It's right in between purple and brown and deep red. It has shading and it's really pretty. The ink that it reminded me of was De Atramentis Saint Laurent, which I really liked. Also, KWZI #81 is very similar until it turns near black.

I finally got a bottle of this last week and it is just great! I totally dig the brown-purple thing it has going on and it is surprisingly water resistant. It shades marvelously with nibs that you want it to shade with and is also decently saturated with those finer nibs that you might not want too much shading with. This is all around just an excellent ink and deserves far more attention than it gets!!

Hmmmm. I missed this thread before now. It would be interesting to see how this compares to De Atramentis Patchouli, a scented ink (which is an interesting color, but smelled AWFUL).

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

If you like brown-purple, also take a look at Sailor Kobe Suma Purple. I would characterize DeA Johann Sebastian Bach as a purplish brown and Sailor Kobe Suma Purple as a brownish purple.

Thanks for the info. That Sailor does look delightful as well.

Bach is one of my absolute favorites. It performs wonderfully, but more than that it is always appropriate. Interesting for personal writing while also being subdued enough for pretty much any business situation. About the only time it wouldn’t work is if you absolutely must use blue. It is very much a “WTH is that?” Color but it could never be accused of blue.

Yet another Sarah.

I totally degree with your descriptions of the the performance and uniqueness of this ink. I love how the color kind of defies labeling; very unique but still conservative. I just finished another fill of it and it has climbed up my all-time favorites list. The water resistance is a huge bonus for me as well.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
