Never seen this type of ebay sale practice before?

Here is a listing of the item I saw.

eBay item number:
291316455680

Then check out the seller.

Sell on ebay as part of a live auction too.

I say if you want to sell as an auctioneer with your on website fine,

but doing it thru ebay. I don't understand?

There are other auction sites they could link to like

liveauctioneers.com

icollector.com

to sell items at.

Anyone ever deal with this seller before?

I have not dealt with them, but based on feedbacks and history they don't seem to be pen specific, more like they deal with various antiquities and art. They have over 22,000 feedback, but only 37 for the last 12 months.

Far as why choose to do it thru eBay, probably because they can.

Edit: they deal with Estate Sales.

There is definitely a lot of vintage Parker and Sheaffer eye candy in their auction store!

PenAddict62, if you do successfully bid on something, please let us know.

I am personally put off by the 20% premium, but am open to acquiring lots of pens that might amount to a deal. I mainly just want to buy pens that work (acquiring an ultrasonic cleaner and tools to replace bladders and j-bars would cause some marital discord around here!), but the cosmetic condition of a lot of these pens is breathtaking and they might be worth bidding on on sending to a nibmeister/ fountain pen repair shop.

I was just trolling when I saw this listing and looked a little deeper. I would not bid on anything that has that 20% added to the final bid. I do well enough around my area for pens at local auctions, flea markets and the area shops. What the 20% is to cover the ebay fees they acquire from sales?

I will pass on this seller items..

So they have their own website and selling there, so why are they on the bay?

Oh now I see, ebay is linking auction houses so they can sell world wide. [ Live Auctions ]

I will still pass on buying.

I will stick with live local auction in my area, that way I can inspect the items.

Good trust with ebayers that I have dealt with and give others a chance as long the listing & photos are done well I will buy from time to time.

Buyer's Premium is now 25% of hammer price for items that sell for below $100,000 at Christie's, Sotheby's and Bonham's. Bidders, whether at those auctions or on ebay should take all costs into consideration when bidding. Interesting to me is that no buyer gets ebay or paypal protection at an auction house, and with all of their auctions video streamed live over the internet, many buy without ever inspecting the item first hand. I guess that if buying through ebay, buyer has the added protection if item not as described.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
