Found a random bottle of Francesco Rubinato "Inchiostro Arancione con essenza di fiori d'arancio" (Orange ink with orange blossom scent). Really nice. I thought I liked the more reddish oranges, but this one is just pure orange --and it's really beautiful! [the scan may not do it justice...]

And now with a third orange ink for comparison, I can do another in the series of "Face-Offs"! The colors are tasty, but I'm not sure I'd like to read a text written with these inks. I'll have to try them out with pen pals and see what they have to say. ;)

The Francesco Rubinato ink looks really interesting.

 

Didn't know where to ask so I thought I'd put it here -- how does Noodler's Habanero compare to Diamine Autumn Oak? I'm looking for a slightly muted, but distinctly orange ink. Legibility is a concern. Cheers.

Good question, Sansa! I was wondering about those two as well. It looks like Autumn Oak is just ever so slightly more orange-brown, less vivid. More legible in the sense that it would be easier on the eyes. What do you think?

True. In a pen they're almost identical --it's mainly the Q-tip washes that show the difference.

Habanero! It's less expensive and I think it held up better in fade tests. Also, no reports of nib creep.

Oooh, good point about the fading. I have an Apache Sunset sample on the way but I'm pretty sure the shading will be too extreme for me. Habanero it is!

A new mixed-up creation: STORMY PERSIMMON. I really like it! This is a combination I could use on a daily basis.

In spite of my FPN name, I like a very narrow range of orange for inks. So with a new Edison Collier —Persimmon Swirl—, I needed just the right color. I did a mix in the hopes of just the right shade of deep orange-red, like those dark orange poppies that will soon be out in Spring.

 

Here's the result:

It's a shade darker than Fuyu-gaki, and a touch redder than Oranje Boven. Not sure if I love it, yet, but I may have to tinker with it a bit more...

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off.
