Carry cases. Worth their weight in gold. Help prevent wear and tear and losing pens.

Gotta go with the Belomo loupe in there too.

Third would be some of my antique glass pen rests.

Sealing Wax.

I accidentally stumbled across J.Herbin sealing wax on the Goulet Pen Company website a few years back and, thinking it would be fun, ordered a seal and some red sealing wax. It took a few tried to get it to work right, but I fell in love with it the moment I first put a seal on the paper!

I currently have two seals, my first and last initials. I usually use the last initial for sealing envelopes and the first initial seal for putting a seal on more personal letters and cards. In todays cold electronic world, a wax seal can go a long way to catch someones attention and tells someone that you devoted extra time to the correspondence by melting the wax and pressing a seal.

Paper is of course also an important accessory to a fountain pen, but I'll definitely never be without a supply of sealing wax.

Nothing smells as good as melting sealing wax :)

My favourite accessory is having a second, short standard international cartridge in the barrel ready to go when the first runs out. I always thought it was cool that people did that with their pens at school. I was a bit jealous that I couldn't do that with my Lamy!

You should not be jealous, the Lamy cartridge is twice the cartridge as a short standard international cartridge.

Sounds strange but a Pentel, Derwent (or similar) water brush.

A Duluth Pack Haversack.

I agree, the Duluth Pack haversack is the perfect accessory for a fp. It has a place for pens, journals, a small notepad, a book or e reader, and a tablet. vinper

My favorite is the Blue Mountain Pottery Pelikan pen stand...

Wow, that's nice. I have a small gold colored one that I picked up at some table at DCSS in August. It was a pretty good price (at least compared to ones I've seen on the Bay of Evil). But truthfully, I saw a blue one the same size at another table that was just being used as a display (i.e., not for sale) and would happily consider trading the gold one (which has the original box, BTW) for a blue one.

I would have to say, though, that my favorite accessory probably is a small cloth covered cardboard casket that I originally got in a Yankee swap at something a couple of years ago -- it originally contained packages of tea and homemade candied orange peel from my friend's tea shop and was a very popular item to steal that year. I considered myself really lucky (and the tea and orange peel was just a bonus -- I wanted the casket, because the fabric was purple and gold). I wanted it to store ink bottles and cartridges in (although of course 2 years later it has completely been become redundant in favor of "real" storage).

Difficult. Hmmm. First two inkwells, a capstan shaped Chester silver inkwell and a French glass pewter capped one with a lovely cut glass star on the base.

Secondly my best pen box, a repurposed Dammann Freres tea box in black lacquer and black leather.

And thirdly an English leather cigar holder, nicely rigid and with separate compartments.

Problem, of course, is that you can so easily start collecting accessories as well as pens!

By the way, I do sometimes come across rocker blotters at flea markets and sales - is there much demand for them? I ask as if people do like them, I might pick a few up next year and list them on classifieds here.

Too many pens, too little time!

1) An OMAS rosewood case with a clever trick-locking front panel. It's a beautiful piece that I have had for many years.

2) An Urushi tamenuri holder for Sailor ink bottles that allows you to tip the bottle to make filling easier.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Anyway, a nice bottle of ink and notebook or diary to write is also an essential element.

I like the plastic writing mat from Nanami Paper because it's a sooth surface for letters. I want to say blotting paper but I don't use it often enough.

Pelikan ceramic pen holder. Makes me smile everytime I look at it:

I keep looking at the big size ones like that but they're always costing more than I want to spend. :(

I do like the little ones, too, though -- I have one of the little ones (with the pen rest on the base) that's gold paint/glaze, but I'd love to get a blue one at some point.

Pilot Pensemble single pen pouch. I've had other leather cases/pouches before, but this one just takes the cake. I enjoy how soft the leather is.

The little cobalt blue ones are very nice indeed but belive it or not, were the hardest of the lot (white, silver, gold) for me to find, at least at a reasonable price. Keep your eyes peeled though and one will eventually turn up for a reasonable price.

What would be considered a reasonable price for a cobalt blue one?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
