Hey! I hope everybody that is reading my thread, has had a good thanksgiving, and those who don't celebrate it, I hope you had a good holiday.

I could say that I hit a good milestone today, after a year of collecting, and some active buying... I finally have collected 8 Pens ^_^

Also, I know there is some really dedicated collectors who collected my total amount in 1 month, mind you guys, I'm a student with No Income, and only managed to get 4 more pens by selling and loaning...

C.D, It appears you have acquired some solid workhorse pens in your collection. I have several economical pens that write just as well as some which cost 5-10 times as much. If you are not averse to vintage pens, you can normally find a nice user grade Parker 51 Aerometric for around the same as the TWSBI's you list. Additionally Parker 45's and Esterbrook J 's are great economical pens. Good Luck!

"Are we at last brought to such humiliating and debasing degradation that we cannot be trusted with arms for our defense? Where is the difference between having our arms in possession and under our direction, and having them under the management of Congress? If our defense be the real object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands?" Patrick Henry

Well... I was thinking of getting a nice vintage pen, but I'm just worried it might not be able to handle the rough n tumble conditions that my current pens ((Mostly the the Jinhaos and the Lamys)). But on the other hand, I really like the look and design of the 51. I'm deciding between a Vacumatic and a Aerometric..

Hi CD , I tried to purchase at Auction today , a Parker 51 Pen and Propelling Pencil Set , with a spare 9ct. gold nib thrown in . I was not successful . It sold for AUD110.00 . Didn't appear in very good condition and did not have a case , just an old rubber band around the items . It would need refurbishing no doubt , and it was only a poor quality Computer picture . I think I did well NOT to buy it .Good to hear from you .

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
