Rhodia Notebooks Disappoint

I have a lot of Rhodia notebooks, one for each subject that I'm studying. I have to say, I don't particularly enjoy them. The lack of margins and floppiness make writing in them kind off stressful.

There's another thing that I just noticed: the texture is pretty rough! I have a Rhodia refill pad that I like very much that's much smoother than these side-stapled ones. I've had 2 of these side-stapled notebooks before and they were also perfectly smooth.

But I'm stuck with 10 of them. I wish I had chosen Oxford campus books to buy in bulk instead.

Is your experience with side-stapled Rhodia notebooks the same? What's your A4 notebook of choice?

Also, does Clairefontaine make spiral A4 notebooks? Because that would be perfect!

Clairefontaine do make A4 options, stapled, sewn and spiral. I suppose the lesson here is one I preach all the time. Buy one to try before you buy bulk. Might not be the cheapest option but may save you making a big investment and being stuck with stock. To your general question I have never had a problem with Rhoda. It isn't quite as smooth as Clairefontaine but some people like the little bit of tooth. Good luck with your studies!

I've tried those notebooks before, but for some reason, this batch creates lots of friction between the page and nib. They were also the only one that I knew of at the time that I could buy in bulk.

And thanks. I'm definitely going to need luck.

I have a stapled notepad in Rhodia and five of the black and orange thick hard covered ones. The notepad ones are fine, but not nearly as good as the others. The paper in the notepad is whiter, produces a little more feedback than I expected and I can't see sheen on it; even with inks like Yama-Dori. The hardbacked ones are slightly off-white and the paper is beautifully smooth and really good for shading inks and those with sheen.

I use the Rhodia A5 side staple bound notebooks for all of my university notes. Never had a problem with any of them. They are smooth and perfect for fountain pen ink.

Hello. I just joined the network so please forgive me until I catch up. I just ordered the Rhodia Circa notebook from Levenger. Had anyone had any experience with this notebook?

Blue Knight, is there a web site for Oxford Optik. I was born in the UK and moved to the US at a very young age. I would love to be able to order paper from the UK. My impression is that there might be more of a selection. Am I correct? Does the group have an opinion.

I use a Pelikan pen for every day. I am a college professor developing lecture notes, etc.

Thanks in advance for your advise.

They have there black by black and red range in the UK however these aren't as big in terms of page count as your traditional moleskine or webnote notebook,.

I have tried both types of paper from Levenger (Circa): 1) Levenger Paper - smooth, doesn't feather, but does ghost a bit with most of the inks I have tried (Noodlers, Sailor, and Organic Studio); 2) Circa Rhodia: Lovely paper, very smooth and fountain pen friendly - worth the few extra pennies if you are using the Circa line. I have also had success with Rhodia note pad paper, tearing at micro-perforation, and using the Circa paper punch.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
