How Many Pens Have You Bought This Year? - 2014

In remembering a thread regarding how long can you go without buying a pen this year started on January 1st, I thought I'd come back now and ask how many pens have you bought this year?

For me, so far only one, a Pelikan 800 Tortoise, O3B. Thinking about getting an MB 149 90th though before the end of the year.

I just bought a 4 pen old style NOS NoNonsense Calligraphy set. I think that's the only pens I bought this year but I'm old and may have forgotten some.

Hmm. A little disappointed with my will power especially as this was meant to be the year of the ink. :(

  1. Sheaffer Taranis - M nib - touched it, had to own it.
  2. Conklin Mark Twain Crescent Filler (Zebra) - F nib (probably the smoothest nib I own) - 45% off at Pen Hospital
  3. Monteverde Intima - F nib £15 London Pen show impulse buy after being blown away by nib quality.
  4. Pilot Custom Heritage 912 - PO nib - attika89 I mostly blame you.
  5. Platinum Preppy - 0.2nib - trying out Goulet Pen's new website.

I've a feeling one more might make it's way into my Christmas stocking. Perhaps . . .

Well, seeing as though I got into it this year, my answer is all of them.

I'm with you....and I have a number. I keep a spreadsheet, and I've been surprised at what I've done just since May. 85. And a good half dozen coming.

Hello Everyone,

3 Lamy Al-Stars, (blue-green, Ocean Blue and Purple)

2 Pilot Metropolitans, (going to sell)

2 Nemosine Fusions, (both black - going to sell - too heavy for me)

2 Nemosine Singularities, (blue marble and black)

2 Asa Athlete Indian Eyedroppers, (100% ebonite), (light brown/black swirl and dark green/black swirl)

5 Camlin 47's, (navy, black, burgundy, teal and green)

1 Serwex MB Flex pen, (black)

1 Wailty Eyedropper, (clear with dark green cap)

1 Wailty Piston Filler in Lime Green

1 Sailor 1911 Standard with upgraded 21k gold nib, (black with gold trim)

2 Sheaffer Preludes, (iridescent green and black lacquer with chrome cap)

2 Levenger Obsidian True Writers, (one plain, one monogrammed)

3 Esterbrooks, (black Bell Systems SJ; copper J and early flat bottom Transitional in red with ribbed jewel)

2 Sheaffer School Pens, (one transparent green and transparent blue)

2 Wearevers, (one turquoise and one Cadet Blue)

1 Fineline, (blue)

1 Parker 45, (navy blue with brushed chrome Lustraroy cap)

and 1 Parker Vector, (burgundy)

The two Parkers, mentioned last, were left-overs from my previous foray into fp's.

I think that is all of them... for now, it is only November. ;)

Best regards,

Chris

depends...

I bought three:

- Pelikan 101N tortoise (1937)

- Romillo Narcea

- Stipula DaVinci

and got rid of three others.

So the balance is even. Lucky me :-)

Greetings,

Michael

Well, I re-entered the FP world this year, so I have one of those longer lists, too:

Noodler's Konrad

Noodler's freebie Preppy eyedropper

Platinum Plaisir, F

several calligraphy sets in an attempt to find something finer than Sheaffer's F italic

Manuscript butterfly nib cheap-o because it was there

2 Nemonsine Singularities, .6mm stub and .8mm stub

Visconti Rembrant, F (ooh, purple!)

Cross Helios, M

Sheaffer Lady Balance, F

Wow, that's more than I realized!

Gotta add. To balance any purchases this year I did sell a dozen or so Esterbrooks and gave away about half that many other pens. I guess that makes the net this year as -12 or so.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
