Osmiroid Rola Nib Units

Hi all

I recently received a bunch of Osmiroid Rola nib units in a lot of pens. The were 12 of them including 4 broads. Esties are not that common here in Oz so I have to take what I can get in my quest to find a broad, wet nib to suit my writing style (such as it is). I find that the Rola broads are pretty good although not as smooth as my only 9xxx series, a 9668, which is of course a medium firm. I have a Venus broad but it is not that great. All of my other Estie units have fine nibs. I'm keeping an eye out for a 9968 or maybe a 2868 however EBay international postage is a killer and can cost far more than the purchase. One of the few downsides of living in paradise I suppose....

Cheers

Mark

If you buy one, you can have it shipped to me and I can resend it. I don't know if that makes it cheaper. I bought a B3 - I love how broad it is, but what a disappointment. I'm jonesing for a way to make a really wonderful nib.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Thanks for the offer and it would be interesting to see if it was cheaper that way. I'm trying to be good at the moment and resist buying anything as my most recent purchase was a whopper! No remorse only I need to pull my head in!

No problem!

We'd love to see how these write differently!

The other source to keep in mind is the Burnham nibs, they came with a nice smooth writing broad. Those fitted to the B48 will fit the Estie, and these pens (particularly with damaged caps) can be picked up in the UK quite cheaply.

I use an Osmiroid Sketch Nib unit in one of my Esterbrook SJs. Amazing nib. I haven't had the chance to try other Osmiroid nibs but the Sketch nib was one I had wanted for a long time and finally found for cheap after a lot of hunting.

What's a B48?

Burnham was a South London manufacturer that in the 40's / 50's manufactured some very colourful pens. Many are small pocket pens (fitted with Gold & Gold plated nibs) but the Burnham B48 was a full size pen that took screw in nibs.

Oh, so a B48 nib will fit an Estie.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
