Hello From The Pnw!

PNW being Pacific Northwest, that is!

I hope I don't get myself in trouble by becoming a pen addict like my 18-year-old son...he showed me this forum and it kind of sucks you in!

I don't have any pens...yet...but if he has his way with me I'm sure I will soon. I've been browsing and loving the pictures and descriptions of all these beautiful pens...thanks for making this site available!

Welcome from up north! We're all enablers here. It can be dangerous.

Don't know where in Oregon you are, but take a peek at Paradise Pen in the Pioneer Place mall next time you're in Portland (wow, alliteration).

10 years on PFN! I feel old, but not as old as my pens.

Inked up: Wing Sung 618 - BSB / PFM III - Kiri-same / Namiki Falcon - Storia Fire / Lamy 2000 - Fuyu-gaki / Sheaffer Triumph - Eclat de Saphir

Welcome from Tenn. When you see some of these beautiful writing instruments it is a challenge to keep things in balance. Thank goodness living on a fixed income helps me! Glad you are a part of the FPN community. :)

Welcome !

More than just beautiful, you will enjoy the murmur of the nib, as it lays down a smooth line of color

on the paper. It is an experience for the senses. Do you have a particular pen or style of pen in

mind ?

Glad to have you here.

I live just West of Portland...and Paradise Pen is my son's "dealer". I almost asked him to take me there yesterday...almost. I think before the weekend is out I will have him take me for a perusal.

AND a new pen will definitely be on the Christmas list this year!

I like the classic bullet-shapes I've seen around. My son has a Lamy 2000 and it's just too austere for me. I love the marbled resins and ebonite pens. Love the warmth of that style.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
