I am looking for a "fountain pen friendly" pad in the standard U.S. size of 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" size.By FP friendly i mean no bleed through or little or no show through in normal use.

I have checked the usual suspects (Clairfontaine and Rhodia) and none of their products appear to meet that size. Anyone know of anything that fits?

Lisa Andersen at Andersen pens makes pads this size that are very fountain pen friendly and have a variety of Pen pictures on the top or side of the pads. I love them and pick up a few every time I see them at a pen show. She calls them Proper Pads I believe.

The Rhodia #16 is 5.8"x8.3". it's pretty darn close to the size you want. I cut the backing card board and fit it into a 5.5"x8.5" holder. It works well and may be more cost effective than a "specialized pad that is FP friendly.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
