Kingdom Note (Sailor) Lidths Jay Flex Art Review

Kingdom Note (Sailor) Lidths Jay:

This review might look different, because it is. I wanted a compact, informative way to organize my inks, so I put the information I want on these cards. I am an artist who loves to write with wet, flexible nibs, so I wanted to see how each ink behaved on the various papers I like and use, including the nasty paper at work.

I used an iPhone 4S to take and upload the photos. Color accuracy was not within my means to convey.

I have included the date and time I created the card, as well as the temperature and humidity.

There is a list of pens and paper used on the front of the card, down at the bottom.

Please see other reviews of this ink if you want to know about its waterproof qualities, lubrication, saturation, archival or fade/light resistance properties.

I was not concerned about bleed-through, smearing, or drying time. I did want to know how well the ink would wash with water, so you can see the two symbols for that, one using a wet paintbrush while the ink was still wet, the other using a wet paintbrush after the ink had thoroughly dried.

I wanted to have a large enough swatch to quickly see the color as it relates to other, similar colors, which is how I will sort the cards when I'm done. This swatch also shows shading and any sheen the ink exhibits.

Miscellaneous Comments: A beautiful blue, with a nice dark purple sheen. Part of the Kingdom Note store's 5th Anniversary Bird Series.

Breathe. Take one step at a time. Don't sweat the small stuff. You're not getting older, you are only moving through time. Be calm and positive.

I don't know - I only have a sample that was labeled Lidth's Jay. Although, most Jay's are garrulous, in my opinion, so that would fit.

Quite nice. Thank you!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Is this the one also called Garrulous Lidthi?

Yep!

For reference, all KN inks use scientific names. Just type these into Google for the common names. Several have more than one common, I chose ones that are familiar to myself.

I'm awaiting a bottle of this ink. I promise not to be too garrulous about it.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Could someone comment on the properties of this ink? Flow, lubrication, etc? I'm trying to decide between this one a couple of other exotic Sailor inks (OnagoIro About To Leave, Kobe Shioya Blue, KN Entoloma Virescens). Thanks!

According to this thread (https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/283956-rosalia-batesi-kingdom-note/) Saskia said both Jay and About to Leave flow very well. (Posts #3 and #5)

Hi gylyf, I'd skip Entoloma Virescens and get either the Onago Iro About to Leave (one of my favorite inks even though I noticed that the intense sheen makes it prone to hard starts after a day or too in one of my pens that is not a super wet writer ) or the Lidths Jay (which I have not yet tried). Entoloma Virescens is not a bad ink -- I just don't think it feels special enough if you were to only get one of the three. (I received the EV about two weeks ago and although the ink performs flawlessly, the color looks flat and compared to the other inks in my inky stash there isn't anything about it that would get me excited to use it over a similar blue.)

Sinistral1, thanks to the generosity of SteveSurf, I too was able to try this ink. I have really loved the color and you nailed it, it's blue with a purple sheen.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
