Sorry, I do not know which pen you're referring to.

Almost without exception Chinese pens come with a single nib size, and no choice over width. Basically you choose the pen and live with what you get or swap it out with another nib (say from Goulets or John Sorowka).

The only exception to this is the Chinese calligraphy nib. The nib bends up at the end and you use it at the angle that gives you the width line you want. These nibs can operate from fine to about 2mm line width. I have seen this nib on a Kaigelu 300, but IIRC it's one another model in the 36x range. Can't remember exactly which one though.

Duke do it with their 209 too ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/Duke-209-1-Steel-Calligraphy-Fountain-Pen-Set-/331353354926 ) .

EBay.com is a good source for Chinese pans, and jewelrymathematics is a good seller ( http://www.ebay.com/usr/jewelrymathematics?rt=nc ) aka ycpen on FPN. Not too sure how to see his shop at the moment or if he still has one.

Hope this helps a little.

Regards,

Richard

Thanks Richard.

The only one ive seen is on ebay from a japanese seller.

The "art pen" refers to the style and not the nib. Sorry.

Its a fairly slim pen (slimmer than the 316) with a piece of chinese art near the grip and the one I saw had a piece of b&w art, although there was a red + black art rollerball elsewhere which I would have in a shot if I could get an fp version, i really like the design of this pen and the nib size isnt really an issue.

I really want a Kaigalu pen, after all it has a kangaroo on the nib and I need to have one (long story that goes back to my childhood) but the 316 isn't really me, but I'd get one just for the kangaroo nib haha.

Many thanks

Ian

It's the Kaigelu 338. I have never held one (but nearly bought it myself several times). I think the marbling is printed.

There are other sellers, but here is a fairly reliable one at a low price:

Hi Richard

You're not going to believe this.

I used the previous link for ebay China you gave me and found, and ordered the pen, and I ordered a 368 with a calligraphy nib in burgundy, while I was at it....couldn't help myself. :D

I came on here to thank you and let you know I'd found it, and that it was a 338, only to find that You knew the pen and had recommended the person that I bought it from.

I'm going to be getting more Kaigelu pens with my crimbo money. I had planned to get a Monteverde with the money, but that's been dropped as I can get too many good pens for the £35.

I'm even thinking ahead to what ink to get for the pens I have coming and the ones I'm going to get. (the kids are buying me ink for xmas).

This fountain pen Malarkey has taken over. ...FPN should carry a warning when you join.

I have been a FPer for about 3 weeks and already I have 3 pens in use (a baoer, a jinhao, and an unknown) 1 locked away for xmas from my wife (Arbutus Apollo) 2 Kaigelu's on the way, and at least another 3, who am I kidding, at least another 5, once Santas been.

This is the most fun I've had in ages.

Cheers

Ian

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
