Van Gogh Vs Rembrandt

So this 100 euro Akkerman gift certificate is burning a hole in my pocket and I have narrowed my choices down to either a Visconti Rembrandt or a Van Gogh. With a 100 euro discount it's either going to be a free Rembrandt or a 100 euro Van Gogh - I just can't make up my mind. A free Visconti is awesome, and the Van Gogh seems a little more hefty, a little more substantial and more beautiful. What would you choose?

I prefer the look and feel of the Van Gogh and would shell out the extra dough. Don't listen to me though...I'm a sucker for faceted pens so my opinion is biased. :)

The facets are a very good point. I have owned a Rembrandt as part of a calligraphy set which I have sold, which is another reason for getting the Van Gogh.

No experience with the Rembrandt, but I've always liked my Van Gogh, an early version. Whichever you choose, if you don't already love Visconti pens, you might come to when you've used it a while.

I have a Van Gogh FP and a Rembrandt Eco Roller, so not a completely fair comparison. I love the Eco Roller for what it does, but I prefer the look, the feel, and the apparent superior quality of the Van Gogh. If I wanted another Visconti FP it would be the Van Gogh, hands down.

I have a purple Rembrandt that I like very, very much. Can't speak to the Van Gogh, but I love the Irises pattern/colors.

I have both pens. The van Gogh is a better buy if you want the fountain feel to writing. The Eco roller is nice, but that is what it is, a re-fillable ball point. They are both nice but are very different.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
