A Parker 51 Aero Creation Using Kullock Parts

Glenn Atkins

Recommended Posts

Yes , but not gold. Would like to share some of the pens I assembled using parts of different Parker , Sheaffer and other German pens. Sometime else. Right now I am in office and don't have the pens with me.

I'll be looking forward to seeing your pens.

These are what I made or better assembled using parts from different pens. Sorry for the low quality pictures.

And will show more if not made fun of. Lolz . It is all hand work. I have no specialised pen repair / restoration tools at all.

I had to find just the right connector to use because the barrel would not fully screw on up to the clutch on many I tried. Once I found one that worked, everything else fell into place.

Glenn

The threads on the barrel end of some connectors don't go all of the way to the clutch ring, and require that a step be machined into the end of the barrel. This was eliminated in later pens, which made for a stronger barrel edge.

Ariel makes some beautiful stuff, but his part-to-part consistency is lacking. He has some rather old machinery (we've talked about this) so can't get the dimensional consistency that you do when machining parts on a CNC machine. Frustrating at times when parts don't fit together perfectly, or without minor modification, but then again if there weren't guys like Ariel around, I wouldn't have a nice bright orange "51".

I had to do a LOT of griding on a vacumatic unit to get it into my Kullock demo body; it would not allow the blind cap anywhere near the body otherwise. I've sworn a bit of an oath to not touch a fantasy vac again unless I get a lathe (and the requisite skill to run it).

No, no, no, not at all. I love those pens! That is some really creative stuff you've got going on. Keep it up! I have been almost entirely off the grid the last couple of days and I'm sorry I did not respond earlier.

Thank you Glenn. Thought you wouldn't respond cause you didn't like them. Thanks again.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
