The blue jewel does look great, and the whole pen looks fancy without being gaudy. Nice!

+1!

Very nice Glenn.

Sorry for the lousy pic, I'll reshoot them someday.

Glenn sometimes they have either the Blue or Burgundy material hoods and barrels, keep your eyes open for them. The full cap in the centennial material is the real expensive part.

I shockingly stole my whole pen from them at auction. They want almost $100 just for this cap.

Glenn, I think yours is every bit as cool as the other one. I know how beautiful Bruce's pen is but yours is more subtle. The depth of color is breathtaking and I think very appealing. I just finished completing a rage red DJ aero from Bullock. it has a matching barrel button. I'd like to get a cap button too.

Wow. Just fantastic. Did the parts fit perfectly right out of the box? I saw a Youtube video and it seemed like occasionally there are issues getting them together. Did it all go smoothly? In any case hard to argue with the results.

I had to find just the right connector to use because the barrel would not fully screw on up to the clutch on many I tried. Once I found one that worked, everything else fell into place.

I had this happen on a Kullock I was working on. I don't think Ariel drilled far enough into the plastic for the filler with the black button on the end to screw in all the way. The barrel and hood were $9.99 pllus postage. I drew the conclusion that the less expensive ones were deficient in some way. I happened across a ruined 51 on ebay, with a filler with the black button knocked off. I put the Kullock hood on it and it screwed in all the way. It's a pinkish translucent one, a double jewel model. It's kind of bizarre-o, but it was fairly cheap. A little color as a lark.

After being incited to try a whole lot of different pens by the enablers here, I have concluded that you need look no farther than Parker 51s for a first rate pen. As your classy blue pens show, you can clad the best pen that ever was with lovely color.

Glenn, just a quick question- where is the barrel breather hole - is it in the jewel at the end or in the side?

There doesn't appear to be a breather hole in either place. Hmm?

I wonder if the split arrow clip and the cap itself , on Glenn's pen , were that of a P 51 aero's? Or did these belonged to a P 51 vac? The pen , however , is a real beauty. Superb job accomplished by dear Glenn.

Glenn,

I had the same threading issue with this one I made for my daughter out of a sacrifice 51.

I had to remove about two threads to get it to screw down tight on both the hood and the barrel.

Great looking pen! I think this is a very cool way to dress up a damaged pen or re-purpose parts.

Best,

Clayton

I guess I lucked out. I built two from Kullock. One with a vac filler the other one not. Both went together with original parts with no need to alter anything.

The cap is one I just had laying around so I slapped it on there. I wanted gold filled and I like the split arrow clips.

Yes , but not gold. Would like to share some of the pens I assembled using parts of different Parker , Sheaffer and some other , probably German , pens. Sometime else. Right now I am in office and don't have the pens with me. And yes , Clayton's is also a very nice looking pen.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
