Hi everyone!

I recently acquired this Waterman fountain pen. I don't have it in my hands yet as it is still in the mail. Here is the sellers listing. Would someone be able to help me with the identification of the model number and pattern.

Thanks

TJ

A Waterman 0502 gold filled straight cap eyedropper in Chased pattern..the clip is

throwing me off. {?}

Fred

Thanks Fred. The clip was kind of throwing me off too. I thought all of these early ED repousse/chased pens were clipless?

1905 is the patent date on my clip of my 52. ED pens were still made for the 'old fashioned'.

Beautiful pen, the first time I've seen a box like that.

As Bo Bo mentions, even after newer models were introduced, the earlier styles were still available for customers that preferred them.

The later (i.e. middle of the first decade of the 1900s) catalogs which include clipped pens still show the older style pen shapes and some of the older overlays.

It would not surprise me at all to find a pen like this that a completely legit factory pen, just purchased a bit later than we normally consider think of for 050x pens.

Great pick up. Congratulations.

Oh wow, that is so beautiful. I hope it's still in good working condition? Would be cool to be able to still use that.

Thanks Siopaopei! I use every pen I own and am looking forward to inking this one up! The nib and feed look OK in the pics so I'm hoping it won't require much more than a cleaning and be ready to go. It still hasn't arrived yet but I will post some pics once I get it writing again!

Pen still has not arrived. The seller is using eBay's duties and customs services. This means eBay charges estimated duties on International purchases (and of course and extra fee), the seller mails it to a warehouse, probably a Pitney Bowes partner, they take forever to re-label it, and finally after a month or two you get your item. VERY FRUSTRATING! I just received a Montblanc 149, using this same scheme, after 2.5 months!!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
