TREBFPN

Recommended Posts

Just like most of the stores today I want to get to you before December arrives. Black Friday is coming up and there just might be that something special you are hungering for? It is that time to plan ahead and splurge before that special winter holiday hits. What are you getting yourself for Christmas, Hannukah or just that Brightest Day in them coldest and darkest months of the year? What fountain pen or accessoy will bring you that bright and cheerful glow? :)

Have asked Santa for a TWSBI 580. Now which one and which nib?

I've also asked for a TWSBI Mini White/Gold - the only thing hanging me back a bit is the nib. I'm inclined to go with Broad but I think I might prefer a stub.

Thinking I might be asking for some of the new Diamine Anniversary inks. Like I really need more inks.

I'm hoping for a christmas time job to pay for some more pens. May or may not have just blown all my money on a computer, a bottle of ink, and my first Esterbrook pen.

The Diamine Anniversary inks are also going to make my Christmas list. I think they are going to be joined by Noodler's General of Armies, and I may even dip my toes into an iron gall.

I came out of summer wanting a 149 under the christmas tree because I had just got the 146 but that pen has ruined my fp-life... I no longer actively seek out pens to buy and somewhere between the 146 and a Preppy that is bulk-loaded with Baystate Concord I think I may actually hold off... Now ink - that's a whole other story...

I'm thinking about a Pilot Vanishing Point, and possibly some extra nib units from Mr. Binder while he's still doing those.

Of course, I'd want it before Christmas, so I could take it with me while I traveled, but close enough. :)

No pens for me for this Christmas. I am going to splurge on a nice watch - IWC, Ulysses Nardin, Zenith or Tudor, still TBD.

Am set....perhaps a grand $50 for 50 sheets of paper package; or the set with 100 sheets.

I have been saving for months to get a Nakaya. Surprisingly, my savings are there a month early: apparently I've been too busy this fall to spend much "fun money". Officially, I get there when I get my November 20 paycheck, but I'm there now.

But, I won't be getting the Nakaya. It's too much for a pen, and I know that means I won't enjoy using it. Instead, I've been eyeing a Wahl-Eversharp Skyliner 50 (much cheaper) from the Andersons. I also saw that the Goulets are getting an attractive Conklin, so maybe I'll go that direction instead. Or both! Saving for a Nakaya leaves me a lot of fun money.

As for the rest of the money, who knows? A guilt free fun purchase down the road. OK, I did already spend a bit of it on a bunch of ink samples from the Goulets, even if it isn't yet November 20.

Anyone score on some major Black Friday deal? Please let us know so we can share in the discount joy :)

Amazon has some good deals. Picked up a Lamy 2000 mechanical pencil for $38 and a Pilot Vanishing Point blue carboneque with an F nib for $87.50. Damage for this week also includes a Pelikan m600 from Massdrop for $260.

I've got a Parker 51 on the way and I just splurged on a Pilot Falcon (one of my dream pens), so pretty much all I want now is a Rhodia dot pad and a bottle of ink. Probably from Diamine or Iroshizuku.

Well, it looks as if the Diamine inks might be off the Xmas wish list. Not because there's a problem with them -- it's just that my husband decided to spill the beans on what he's getting me, for fear I'd be getting it myself.

We were at something over the weekend and someone we know in the Ithaca, NY area has a line on Shetland/Merino cross fleeces, and the hubby has arranged to get one of the fleeces from her. :bunny01: Apparently there was a local farmer with Shetland sheep -- and a Lincoln ram from somewhere else escaped and came a-visiting....

So no, not pen related. But fiber-related is good too.... Plus, he has Already Been Warned :P that if we go east at Christmas I'm definitely hitting Fountain Pen Hospital while in NYC, and am likely to decamp to Boston and Cambridge for a day if we go up to his mom's (Bromfield's, at the very least).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
